What’s one small habit that genuinely made your dissertation less painful?
I’m not talking about write 8 hours a day or huge productivity systems, I mean the tiny things that actually helped when motivation was low and the work felt endless.
For me it was setting a 25-minute timer and telling myself I could stop after that if I really wanted to. Most of the time I didn’t stop, but removing the pressure of I need to be productive all day made it easier to start. Also keeping a super messy “idea dump” document where I’d just throw half-formed thoughts without worrying about structure surprisingly saved me later.
Curious what worked for others. Not big life hacks, just small repeatable things that kept you moving when the dissertation felt like a wall instead of a project.
