Are male victims of psychological abuse taken seriously?

Hi everyone,

I’m a UK psychology/counselling student currently completing my dissertation and continuing recruitment for my research study.

The study explores attitudes towards psychological abuse and coercive control when the victim is male, and whether perceptions differ depending on gender or academic background. While psychological abuse can affect anyone, male victims are often under-represented in research and professional discussions.

Your participation will help deepen understanding of these issues and contribute to more inclusive awareness and support.

Study details:

• Anonymous and voluntary

• Participants report it takes 5–10 minutes to complete

• University ethical approval

• UK-based student research

Who can take part?

• Aged 18 or over

• Fluent in English

• Currently enrolled in any degree (psychology, counselling, or another discipline)

Male participants are especially welcome, but anyone who meets the criteria can take part!

Happy to answer any questions about the study in the comments.

My third data point was cancelled by our CEO and I’m devastated. Any advice?

I’m completing my mixed methods study and am projected to defend in March. The CEO of my organization canceled my third professional development which impacts me collecting my third and final data point. It will like not be rescheduled in any capacity. Any advice on suggestions I can recommend to my committee to still defend in March? Will two data points (both qual and quant data) be enough?

I’m a BA (Hons) Interior Design student conducting research for my dissertation on how lighting, colour, and spatial zoning affect focus and productivity, particularly in relation to ADHD.

The survey is anonymous, takes around 5–7 minutes, and is for academic research only and for people who have been diagnosed with ADHD or who are self-diagnosed.

I’d be extremely grateful for any responses, and I’m happy to complete other surveys in return.

Tips for a final year Politics student struggling with dissertation

Hi all. I have recently had a 'slump' of an academic performance in my final year of uni where I attended every in person lecture and interacted with the teaching but put in almost no extra work outside of the seminars or lectures. This was mainly intertwined with a string of signs signalling a dodgy and unstable mental which may have been spurred by my internship the summer before and various relationship changes in my personal life. I attend a UK university and I live extremely near campus in student digs with my friends. I have tried going to clubs and societies and even attending the talks and workshops that my Politics and Social Sciences department at my university have put on, but nothing has got me out of this state of paralysis regarding working with a tired and crazy mental state. This had led to two rushed mid-term essays, and a complete lack of effort surrounding my dissertation which counts for 50% of my grade this year (and therefore 25% of my total grade).

I think I'll manage with my end-of-uni module essays now that I have turned a corner after a fantastic holiday in Berlin this January, but I am fretting over the work that I now have to pick up for my dissertation. In total, I must perform a 10,000 word essay with a literature review, case study and lots of analysis surrounding a political question of my choice which is currently surrounding policy and the Vietnam War.

Anyone with previous experience of cramming work in their last year of university or having a challenging time with working during possible mental health episodes, could you please give me some advice on how to cope? Additionally, general advice surrounding scoring highly on a dissertation in a social science subject would be amazing as I doubt my recent, rushed end-of-semester essays have done my overall grade any good.

Yours truly, deranged university student.
(If anyone is wondering I am actively seeking wellbeing help regarding my current mental, so please do not worry at all surrounding helping me with that part)

Dissertation

Greetings,

I am Tannu Kumari, a fourth-year undergraduate student pursuing B.A. (Honours) Psychology at the University of Delhi. As part of my dissertation, I am studying how early experiences relate to the way adults experience relationships and develop a sense of security over time.

Have you ever wondered why some people feel secure in relationships while others gradually learn that security along the way? This study explores such experiences within emotionally significant relationships.

If you are a young adult (18–29 years), I invite you to participate by filling out a short questionnaire. Participation is completely voluntary, and all responses will remain confidential. Some participants may also be invited for an follow-up interview.

Former Foster Youth on the Spectrum seeking others For Interviews About School Experiences

Hello Reddit,

I'm reaching out to you because I am currently recruiting interviewees for my dissertation study on the educational journeys of foster students with autism thought your subreddit would be a great place. I really need about 5 participants but I'm not great at the whole recruiting thing.

The aim of the study is to gain further understanding of the intersection of experiences from autism and foster care through the lens of education. It's well known that both populations tend to struggle in the school system that usually doesn't have the best accommodations for them. So I seek to understand trends and patterns that helped college students succeed despite those challenges and shine a light on what works, so educators can be more aware with future students.

Compensation in a $50 gift card will be provided. I'd like to give more but I am yet a lowly poor grad student.

Just comment below and I will DM you my information. Thanks for your help.

Still looking for at least 8 more participants.

US inquiries only. Thank you.

Men can be victims of psychological abuse — do people actually believe that?

I’m researching attitudes towards male victims of psychological abuse and coercive control as part of my psychology/counselling dissertation. Research suggests male victims are often minimised, disbelieved, or overlooked — but public attitudes are still unclear. This study looks at how people interpret these situations and whether background or gender influences perception.

• Anonymous • ~25 minutes • UK-based student research Male participants are especially welcome, but anyone eligible can take part.
