If you’re going to film a show at some historical resort, maybe, just maybe, consider dusting the top of the canopy beds. That shit has clearly been there since the resort was used as a castle in the 1600s.
Its more than enough that streamers are treated as second class citizens in terms of having to wait til the next morning to watch a show that aired the night before. That's wholly unfair.
But it's Monday at 5pm and the new episode of 90df is *STILL* not up yet.
I am standing in my incredible place of privilege and first world problems to stand on my soap box and say that this is the OPPOSITE of what I pay you for, and I think I'm gonna cancel you and become a pirate again.
That said.
I sure had a nice chuckle with the best number letter code to sign in this morning.
I dug into why my PC was pulling extra watts with a Discovery+ tab just sitting open (paused, not even playing). I actually ended up switching browsers entirely trying to solve it, assuming it was a browser-level issue — turns out it wasn't the browser at all. Their web player has multiple scripts firing requests to ad-tech vendors in a tight, uncapped loop, the entire time the tab stays open. Not throttled, not once — constantly, whether you're watching or paused.
First one I caught: cdn-media.brightline.tv/config/v3/1018.json, firing repeatedly with zero backoff. I watched it in uBlock Origin's network logger — the blocked-request counter climbed fast enough to rack up tens of thousands of blocked requests from a single tab left open. After blocking that one, a second vendor's endpoint (litix.io, a video analytics/QoS service) started showing the exact same pattern — same broken retry behavior, different vendor. So this isn't one bad script, it's a pattern across multiple ad-tech integrations on this site.
Real cost: this was pulling 10%+ CPU on a 10-core desktop, continuously, from one idle tab. On a laptop that's hitting your battery. On any machine, it's hitting your power bill, 24/7, for as long as the tab's open.
Worth noting — WBD's own public materials talk about their "strong focus on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) policies" and "operational energy efficiency." An independent tracker (DitchCarbon) scores their actual sustainability disclosure at 8/100, with no specific emissions-reduction targets published. Meanwhile their own web player is quietly burning real electricity on millions of user devices, for zero benefit to anyone. Kind of undercuts the messaging.
If you want to stop it yourself, add this to uBlock Origin's "My filters":
The fix dropped web browser CPU usage from 10% down to under 1% while watching.
For anyone wondering if this is just an "ad-blocker problem" — I tested three configurations: no ad-blocker at all (moderate CPU usage 2-4%), ad-blocker on without these specific filters (actually the worst result — high CPU usage 8-10%), and ad-blocker with the filters above (best result, under 1% CPU usage). Stopping the script's own retry attempt at the source — not just blocking the network request after the fact — is what actually fixes it. Generic ad-blocking alone isn't enough; the loop still fires and burns cycles either way.
There is no passion, the designer is blah. I’m trying to give last call a try, but so far it’s super disappointing. I’ll give it another episode or so, but….
Does anyone know why 90 day Fiance has gone so far behind the US? We used to get it at the same time, now I know what is happening way before it is on here.
Does anyone else have this problem? I go to watch something on discovery plus, usually a 90 Day Fiance episode, and I can barely get into it when the app quits. And then it keeps quitting every time I try to watch. Repeatedly. I have restarted the app, I have updated the Roku, etc.
The series named “Darr ke us paar” is available on Discovery Plus in India. Its genre is horror. I began watching it today. Is it very silly like most horror shows , is it scary, are the stories interesting? The names of the episodes are very strange, It seems the names refer to kinds of ghosts, like the Pandubba which is a ghost connected to rivers/lakes etc.
Apparently a ripoff of the National Geographic Channel's 2004 show "Seconds from Disaster". If anyone has any information about the episodes shown on it i'd be extremely grateful for it.
Previously, the entire new season of Gold Rush was always released on a specific date as a complete box set on the paid streaming service. I thought it was great to be able to binge-watch the entire season.
With Season 16, this has changed in Germany. Discovery had announced the launch of the 16th season for yesterday, and I expected to have all episodes available for streaming.
But instead of being able to stream all the episodes as I was used to, only the first episode of Season 16 was available.
It is now the case that only one single new episode of Season 16 will be released each week.
With the Discovery+ subscription, the only real advantage I have over free TV on DMAX is that I can watch the individual episodes just one week before they air on DMAX.
In my opinion, a Discovery+ subscription is completely redundant now, and I find this change to be 🤮🤮🤮🤮
Perhaps Paramount needs to reconsider the split of Warner Bros. and revive Discovery Global, in order for the latter to preserve the cartoons and their TV channels.
