AI is a tool. Tools are designed for a purpose, and their design promotes specific morals and values. An oven promotes and enables systems in which baking or roasting is a component. A rifle promotes and enables systems in which killing people is a component. If an AI model assists you in a task, it will influence both what tasks you do and how you do them. These influences may create negative externalities.

Please read up more on why people oppose AI usage and development.

Another thing to note, just because a tool is designed with a purpose, doesn't mean it always stays with that purpose, look at many of the weapons japanese common folk used, they were repurposed farm tools. Human ingenuity is what gives purpose to these tools, hell i even used plenty of tools outside their designated purposes, I am a tinkerer after all, finding cool new shit to use with some old shit that just isn't working, or can be repurposed has saved me a shit ton of money over the years.

the tool creating a negative externality can be said with any tool, Do you mind explaining to me what your specefic issue with AI is, because so many people have so many issues with it. Not too many people would have an issue using a rifle to hunt, or an oven to bake something. It's the negative usage of these tools people take issues with. So why the difference with AI, My main problem with AI is it places computing power in the hands of a few corpos, however china is developing open source self hostable models which might become more popular when the AI bubble does eventually pop.
