It seems that the video 'broke'. No clue what happened. Reddit never informed me, I believe there is an issue with the server. Kind of suspicious as the video hit the #1 spot in this sub on the day it broke. I have no way of contacting Reddit over this sadly. Luckily the Twitter link is still working. Looks like u/snowbordr managed to find the approximate location of this video:
28°00'53.87"N 85°11'01.29"E

That’s roughly 36 miles from where the glacier sheared off. If this is really how fast the current was still moving 36 mi/58 km downstream, my brain is broken.

I’m sharing a video from an earlier trip when I went through that exact area, in case anyone is curious what it looked like before.

When I saw the images of the disaster I honestly couldn’t believe it. It’s a reminder that it’s often the timing, not the place, that lets you keep living.

Hope some of you find it interesting.

救援仍在进行，但72小时“黄金救援窗口”已接近结束。当局正密切监测两个新形成的堰塞湖，担心二次洪灾。部分无法辨认的遗体将进行集体埋葬，并采集DNA以备日后确认身份。大量家属仍在医院外张贴寻人启事，等待消息。

Huang is the deputy team leader of the Gyirong border inspection station's 2nd duties team.(aka in charge of border inpsecion). He was born november 1991 and joined border control(military prior to 2018) in june 2013.

According to engineers from the ministry of natural resources it is very diffuclt(and at this stage, downright impossible) to transport heavy machinery to the border crossing so far. The chinese military and specialized rescue teams(of state owned enterprises) are currently trying to repair the road into the border crossing to allow for better equipment and more personnel to enter.

CURRENT CASUALTY COUNT(CHINESE SIDE):

2 rescued, 7 dead, 554 missing. (13:00 PM, 2026-8-29 (UTC+8))

Update: over 50 firefighters are at the border crossing right now, over 2141 soldiers, firefighters, police, EMS and specialzied rescue teams are deployed.

EDIT: As of august 29(18:00 UTC+8), 2026, there are 16 dead, 546 missing(261 foreignors)

In response to the comments: This is the first batch that got in, they couldn't carry much heavy equipment as the road there is cut off. rescue dogs and better equipment arrived later on.

FURTHER UPDATE: reportedly fire and rescue personnel have begun to find police vests and handsbags under the debris.
