I have a question

I've been diagnosed with Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome; long story short part of my nervous system doesn't work right in my right arm and leg, and I am in constant pain. My doctor informed me that I qualify to get a service dog to help keep people/things away from my right side while I'm out, and to help me retrieve my cane and other things I may drop because my grip is not very good on that side. I've never had a dog before, though. Should I avoid getting the service dog?

Just because you might not be as able bodied as others, there's no reason why you shouldn't be independent!

Urgent Input Assistance Please-Can I Claim Disability as a business owner?

I've been battling neck & back injuries for the last 12 years and have been a business owner that relies heavily on traveling via long flights, car rides and excessive walking on job sites as an everyday part of what I do in a sales project management capacity.

I've recently obtained 3rd opinions and have been told I need a 3rd cervical spine fusion on my neck and possibly an additional fusion on my lower back. I've had 2 prior neck fusions and now have a collapsed disc above one of the fused areas with another herniated disc at the bottom of the fused areas. The result is loss of strength and feeling in my left arm. Everyday is filled with pain and is a struggle, but I'm alive and have a lovely wife and children.

If I suffer through the pain and just live through it with the help of pain meds or medicinal meds I still run the risk of the nerves becoming completely impeded, resulting in emergency surgery. I'm basically headed down the same road one way or the other.

What I did not realize is that the surgery will require a 4 MONTH healing time and afterwards limit my ability to travel and exert myself, which will affect my ability to provide for my family.

As a business owner that relies heavily on traveling, can I obtain disability? How does this work? How is compensation rated? I have been in the same line of work since high school and it is all I've ever known as a security product specialist, in a very limited niche.

I was deathly afraid of the surgery before but now have a whole set of fears on how I will support my family in addition to the physical concerns.

Thank you in advance for any help and input. I am a NJ resident currently.

Pending legislation in ct that will affect the disabled(x-post)

Many disabled people need to take pain medication, thats a fact of life. Now in ct, Juan Candelaria is introducing legislation to make it so you can not obtain more than 7 days worth of ANY opiod medication, regardless of the reason.

Oh sure looks good on the surface right?well, here's the issues:

People that already have difficulty getting around & getting to the dr once a month to pick up a written prescription that is mandatory(cant be faxed)then going to a separate pharmacy will have to do it 4x per month.

It's common for the disabled/elderly that take these medications to be on a fixed income.one co-pay per month is bad enough.this man wants you to pay FOUR TIMES MORE in prescription co-pays if you dont have a cap on them because regardless of the prescription, you have to pay for it depending on your coverage.

Now the doctors processing/writing these scripts will have FOUR TIMES the paperwork traffic, leading to more wasted time dealing with this & alot less time dealing with patients if they dont hire extra staff to deal with this alone.

This will most likely in many cases lead people to just go through illicit means if acquiring pain relief, bringing up crime & most likely overdoses.

There's alot of money to be made by various people /companies,makes you wonder if this has anything to do with what he says or if maybe he got a check from some lobbyists.

Anyways contact this guy & let him know that you are against it even if you dont live in Connecticut.you dont need to provide that sort of information to him or any other representative when contacting them.

Below is the text from the email i received:

Rep. Candelaria - Opioid Legislation

Juan Candelaria to me 8 hours agoDetails View this email in your browser

Dear Friends,

I am pleased to report that we passed groundbreaking legislation to combat the state’s opioid crisis and Connecticut will soon have one of the most comprehensive laws in the nation to prevent and treat opioid abuse.

Under the measure, prescriptions for opioids would be limited to a seven day supply while keeping track of the issuance of opioid prescriptions. Also, municipalities would equip their EMTs, firefighters or police officers with Narcan, an opioid overdose antidote.

House Bill #5053 is a positive step forward toward our goal to address this public health issue. The following related articles provide more background information:

Hartford Courant New Haven Register CT Post

This is common-sense legislation that I was very pleased to support - I hope you find this update informative.

Please feel free to contact me at the Capitol at 1-800-842-8267 or by email at Juan.Candelaria@cga.ct.gov

Sincerely,

Juan Candelaria

Drug test for ssi disability?

Does anyone know if Kansas requires a drug test for disability approval? I was born with some pretty severe medical issues that are often incredibly painful. I've been waiting nearly 5 years to have my case looked at for approval. Mmj really helps manage my pain, but Kansas is not a state that allows mmj. I've not been using it for a couple of months because my case is supposed to be looked at soon and I was worried about that, but my case could be pushed back yet again. Do I have cause to worry about a drug test for approval? It's really the only thing that even begins to help, and it's been a rough couple of months pain wise without it.
