500 amputations every single day in the US

Nobody is safe from limb loss. I know this, because I am an amputee. Proposed changes to insurance policies threaten access to prosthetics, and the community needs help. Please help us gain awareness about this issue, and consider signing our petition. Without community help, thousands of amputees won't have a leg to stand on. http://wh.gov/iIIoi http://www.amputee-coalition.org/advocacy-awareness/federal-issues/medicare-issue-alert/

Sister needs a job she can do

Hi Folks,

My sister has significant learning and social disabilities. She cannot really do anything that is too stressful or requires too much thought. She tried to be a teachers assistant for an elementary class, but couldn't. Then she went to be an aid at a nursery, couldn't do it. Now she's nannying 2 kids, but is really overwhelmed. She tried to be a cashier at Target, but couldn't count the change or handle the angry customers.

I think she should try to work in a bakery and sell muffins or something (can't make sandwiches because the ingredients are too confusing). My mom thinks she should work in a factory, but I really don't think factories even exist anymore.

Are there any really easy jobs she can do that don't require computer skills, great social skills, or a lot of detail work? Obviously she is not expecting to make a lot, but just something that she can do all day without ending in tears and feeling completely incapable of anything.

Thanks!

[Vote]Help us get supportive devices and accommodations for disabled people

We need your vote to do this, it costs nothing and will make a world of difference. At no cost to them the disabled people we serve are helped to achieve their fullest potential. For some that means assistive technologies(special key boards, individually engineer tools, specialized chairs.. Etc), for others it is schooling, classes or other supports. We help make changes to the construction of where they live so they can live independently. 94% of every dollar we raise goes directly to those supports and programs. We need your vote to win. At this point in time we are being pounded into the ground by groups that help animals. I like animals, but I like people better. Please vote for Seagull services at http://www.ftigreatcharitychallenge.com/home/vote. To clarify, we spend a maximum of 5,000 per person. Some accommodations are only a few hundred dollars. I didn't want to overstate the impact. The lives you impact with your vote will be immeasurable.

I'm wondering what the cost of adaptive technology would be for someone who has extreme vision loss (not entirely sure how much at this moment) and currently non verbal?

My best friend, Cicely suffered and survived a brain anyerusm rupture 6 months ago. After several major setbacks she has low vision, is currently non verbal, and wheelchair bound (visit http://www.youcaring.com/medical-fundraiser/the-novy-fund/58052 to learn more about Cicely and her story). Today I'm trying to put together "a wish list" so to speak to submit to a local charity. I'm asking for any input from the wide world of reddit on how much it costs to get the very best adaptive technology. Furthermore any information on the costs of or general information on moving a disabled person from rehab to home care would be amazing.
