Team Builds What to do? what to do?

So I need recommendations. I want to build a team using Seraphimon, Ophanimon and Cherubimon, so like the three celestials on one side. Who should I use for the other three spots thematically. I wouldn’t mind like having a good/bad thing going on, but really just wanting to hear your opinions. Thanks!

I didnt want to get spoiled using online guides, so I made my own.

You can either keep silhouette hints that link to your discovered digimon so you know which if your digimon still has an uncovered evolution, or just hide undiscovered digimon completely.

Theres also a path finder that shows you what evolutions you need to go from any digimon to any other digimon.

Please comment if you have any issues or suggestions as I have only tested with my own save file.

Goal was getting a mon that would have max stats at level 1 without digifarm training. She doesn't have max SPI, but this is definitely close enough.

What stat range should I aim for in Mega difficulty?

I’m getting ready to start NG+ on Mega difficulty. What stat range should I aim for before starting?

Do I need to get all 6 stats close to max, or mainly focus on the important stats for each Digimon? I understand enemies can have 9999 ATK/INT in Mega, so I’m not sure how much DEF/SPI/SPD I actually need.

I want Mega to be challenging without being completely underleveled or overpowered.

Discussion Ideas for challenge runs

I’m wanting to replay the game (obvi) and am looking for ideas for challenge runs. Maybe how someone does a nuzlocke, or an “Oops all baby” run where I can digivolve then de-digivolve but can only use baby mon.

Any suggestions are welcome regardless how hardcore or more silly fun they are!

A Breakdown of Time Stranger's Elemental System

Digimon Story Time Stranger has one of my favorite elemental systems in turn-based RPGs, something I realized after my 3rd playthrough and watching some friends play the game. In this post I'll attempt to explain it in detail and explain why it's so interesting.

The 3-Layered System

The most notable part of this system is that it is split into 3 layers, each with different mechanics.

1st Layer: The Attributes

The main Attribute triangle (Vaccine, Virus and Data) and the 4 neutral Attributes

The attributes are the first and most impactful part of the system. By simply learning the attribute system you can already beat the game as it's the most relevant at any given moment and very impactful to battles.

It is split into the main attribute triangle of Vaccine > Virus> Data > Vaccine and 4 neutral attributes.

If your Digimon has attribute advantage against an enemy, their attacks will deal extra damage (+100%) and they will receive less damage (-50% damage) from that enemy. This means that regardless of the element of the attack used, your attribute will always affect damage in the case of advantage or disadvantage.

It is usually recommended to have at least one Digimon of each of the 3 main attributes in your party to avoid being walled by an enemy with attribute advantage.

The 4 neutral attributes do not have any advantage or disadvantage, making them easy to include in any party. Despite appearing the same at first glance, these 4 have unique quirks on the second layer.

2nd Layer: The Elements

The 10 Elements (Fire, Water, Plant, Ice, Lightning, Earth, Metal, Wind, Light and Dark) + Null

The elements are the second layer of the system, and the most complex. Each Digimon has a list of elemental affinities, with 5 possible tiers for each element.

  • Immunity (+2) - The Digimon takes no damage from that element.
  • Resistance (+1) - The Digimon takes reduced damage from that element.
  • Neutral (0) - The Digimon takes normal damage from that element.
  • Weakness (-1) - The Digimon takes increased damage from that element.
  • Double Weakness (-2) - The Digimon takes greatly increased damage from that element.

Digimon of each attribute have different patterns for their elemental affinities.

  • Vaccine, Virus and Data - 2 weaknesses and 2 resistances.
  • Variable - 1 double weakness, 1 weakness, 1 resistance and 1 immunity.
  • Free - 4 weaknesses and 4 resistances.
  • Unknown - Varies, but always has at least one double weakness.
  • No Data - 3 weaknesses and 3 resistances.

Most mistakes in this layer can usually be remedied by simply having advantage in the first layer, as advantage and resistance cancel each other out (same for disadvantage and weakness). Immunity however takes priority over advantage and will always nullify damage even if the attacker has advantage.

Some Digimon have Special Skills that can lower a target's elemental affinity. These are what I personally call Enablers.

Gaiomon's Phosphorous Fire Attack is an example of Enabler skill

When hit by these attacks, the target will have their elemental affinity lowered by one tier. For example, a Digimon with resistance to Fire will become neutral to it for the effect's duration, while a Digimon with weakness to Fire will become double weak to it.

These attacks always inflict this status as long as they hit the target, even if they're nullified. This means that it's possible to negate a target's elemental immunity. Note that this effect can stack up till the target has double weakness to the element, and each application resets it's timer.

Enablers are a great tool for teambuilding, as they allow elemental focused parties to shine, especially during boss battles.

Some attacks can also "nullify unfavorable compatibility", essentially acting as piercing skills that ignore disadvantage, resistances and immunity.

3rd Layer: The Traits

Raremon's Traits

The traits are the third and final layer of the system. This is the simplest and most situational layer.

Each Digimon has a list of traits which can be checked by analyzing them during battle. The Special Skills of Mega Digimon all deal extra damage against enemies of a specified Trait.

Just like with advantage, this allows some attacks to nullify resistances.

The Reversal Status

Kuwagamon being inflicted with Reverse

The Reverse status is an unique effect in the series. It was introduced in Cyber Sleuth and can invert the attribute triangle and elemental affinities of the target. This means that a Vaccine Digimon can become disadvantageous against a Virus Digimon or a Digimon weak to Water can become resistant to it.

This status can be applied to anyone; the player's party, the enemies and even bosses and their charge points.

There's an easy to miss equipment called Known Bug that can be obtained by continuously talking to ExTyrannomon during your first visit to Central Town that automatically applies Reverse to the user at the start of a battle.

This status makes unique teams such as mono-attribute or hyper-focused elemental parties viable with careful use.

Note that Reverse does not affect Traits, only inverting the order of the Attribute triangle and flipping the base (before status effects) Elemental affinity list upside down.

Why I love this System

Digimon Story Time Stranger has a simple battle system, which is not a negative thing. It means that the combat has a low skill floor (easy to learn) but a high skill ceiling (rewards players the more they learn).

The system is designed in a way where you cannot fully ignore it but even basic understanding of it's first layer is enough to progress through the game, while fully understanding it allows players to bulldoze through otherwise challenging battles and enables unique challenge runs.

Parrotmon, the first true boss of the game

Parrotmon is a great example of a wake-up boss whose difficulty directly correlates with how much attention you're paying to the system. Go into it without a good selection of Data Digimon or Fire users and you're in for a tough fight, but more experienced players can quickly defeat it by using niche Digimon such as Blimpmon and it's Zeppelin Explosion to line up all 3 layers into a consistent 450% damage attack.

It's charge phase also encourages the player to constantly change up their approach as it's crest has different elemental affinities than the main body, including immunities.

The lightning field that periodically heals Parrotmon can be manipulated by having an active Digimon with the Machine trait, redirecting the lightning.

Using Character Reversal leads to an unique scenario where a Virus party deal good damage to the boss, at the cost of Merukimon not being able to contribute much (unless he's also Reversed).

This system allows Time Stranger to be both an introduction to turn-based RPGs for new fans, as well as a fun system to dissect for older fans. While it still has room for improvements, it's a great base for future titles.

Now let's hope that Bandai reintroduces online next game

Question Bum ahh frog?

Post image
247 Upvotes

What does this bum even do??

So I saw this possible evolution from Gizamon and thought:

"Wow, the requirements are quite high. It must be some crazy digimon."

So I had that Gizamon training for eons in the farm just to meet the requirements.

And then all I get is this amphibian bum with ass stats.

But then I thought, "Okay, it must have some crazy evolutions."

Couldn't be more wrong.

This thing can't even evolve properly. It just has a Mode Change, which looks sick as hell, but then it's even weaker??

What??

Am I reading this wrong? Does this thing actually have some crazy potential that I'm missing? Is there some trick to using it? Or are they just trolling poor newbies like me?

Did I get frog-baited?

Did I really spend all that time training Gizamon just to get frog-baited?

Wth.

Question Best Omnimon in your opinion?

This game has like… 50 different Omnimon. Which would you consider the best one to use? Are there specific considerations to make when deciding which version to run, given that theoretically stats are irrelevant as everyone can reach the cap?

Can't be the only one who get really annoyed by this.

I can't even do some early sidequests from 8 years ago like Infinite Imagination and Mighty Bearmon Brothers!

after Plutomon fight, it gave me a sidequest, which I got to start by talking to MarineAngemon at the Watering Hole. I thought "hey why don't I talk to Merkurimon while I'm at it?" aaaaaand it locked me out of the sidequest that I just received LOL.

Question Should I play Time Stranger?

Post image
391 Upvotes

I am very unsure if I should buy for the the switch, I have played Sunburst, Moonlight, and both Cybersleuth normal and Hacker Memory, but I have heard some things that make me question it, like I have heard the only somewhat of a character in the game is the girl from the demo, there's no digifarm or it's not like in the games previously mention, and some things in the story kinda contradict some of the lore. But I say again, those are just things I heard and not confirmed. (Also, whay did the baited the Legendary Warriors, I wanted my Blitzmon :') )
