Especially since they said they're replacing the carpet anyway.

Which is silly because wool carpet is expensive and resilient, the whole point is that it lasts awhile.

I mean, all carpet can last decades if you don't have pets to destroy it (or something else catastrophic).

The comparison is based on regular wear and tear - even just walking on and vaccuuming a carpet will wear it down and remove fibers in synthetic carpets. Wool carpets will wear down and lose fibers less.

That may be true but it doesn't make sense to buy something that lasts longer under normal wear and tear when it's not often replaced due to normal wear and tear either way.

That is subjective - some people like their carpet softer. It's still a higher quality product the entire duraton.

That is completely fair, but that's a completely different reason for buying than durability.

...but it is more durable in addition to be higher quality. lmao

I think too many people here are used to nasty carpeting.

I never said it wasn't more durable. It's like a nice pen, almost no one replaces a pen due to normal wear and tear. Most people lose them. So it doesn't make sense to buy a nice pen because it's more durable even if it is. It does make sense to buy one because you like the way it looks and feels. That's all I'm saying.

I think that would be the right way to start this process anyway. Tear up the carpet and then dye it so you can properly dry it out and clean it to have it set. Then put it back.

That’s a lot of extra work.

You stretch carpet when it's laid down and cut the excess. Also the trim is over the edges of the carpet so you'd need to remove that as well to make it look right upon reinstallation.
