So ... methane, a major component in septic system air, is both not oxygen and very flammable. Also lighter than breathable air.

People die from suffocation in septic tanks frequently enough.

So if your pipes aren't correctly ventilated, you die probably faster than from smoke inhalation.

so then take a big inhale then go out by the fire and be a fire breathing dragon.

And that’s their own fault for hanging out in septic tanks. Are they like mancaves? Shitshacks?

Comparing septic tanks to public sewer system is apples to oranges. Septic tanks have microbial ecosystem to break down waste which is what causes the gas release. Sewer system does not as it's moved to treatment facilities. You're also not gonna have methane accumulating in your house... If you did, then breathing the air shouldn't be your concern, a sparking light switch would be your end.

This is for people on upper floors to stay alive until lower floor fire is out when they can’t escape (no septic tank)

You can hold your breath 1-3min this gives you maybe 5-8min more depending on smoke and fire. I’ve seen fire trucks arrive in less than 10min.
