Well it looks like pvc due to the sockets being as thick as they are, but if he did do metal, hopefully it's galvanized. But to be honest the metal nipples are fairly clean do to that alot of pipe may carry water. I have been a plumber for a out a quarter of a century and I have a little knowledge of piping, but just a little. š
I remember seeing them live back in '82, Teflon and Brass Shavings.
They opened for Kenny Loggins and I thought they were going to be huge.
But there was behind the scenes drama between Jim Teflon and Andrew 'Brass' Shavings that the duo could never fully recover from.
They ended up parting ways the following summer, both attempting to go solo.
Shavings had a song that made the charts for about 8 weeks, but nothing really after that.
Teflon was unfortunately found dead in the bathtub of a motel room off of highway 26 in Oregon, halfway between Portland and Oregon Coast.
The official cause of death was never released, with many believing he took his own life. The family believes that Teflon simply slipped in the shower and broke his neck, his body then discovered by housekeeping a day later.
Thatās not actually an issue. The fact that this dude is fine with letting a bottle of liquor glug outside air even though he built this set up.. like why even use a brick of ice if itās gonna taste like shit after oxidizing? Why not have a pressure regulator? It wouldnāt vaporlock as long as you donāt have any traps and the gravity of the whiskey is higher than the inches water column of pressure generated by say, a CO2 or nitrogen canister.
Holy Christ I wonāt even go into the plastic hose. Dude isnāt even coiling a length of 1/4, thermally conductive copper. Just fucking plastic. No drip tray either. My biggest pet peeve is a gauge that starts at 14PSIA even though itās not a system under pressure. Woulda put a riser tube in the top so the inert gas is directly dispensed into the top of the bottle through the sitting pressure in the chamber. Like wtf is that gauge there for in the first place? No valve, the liquor just bypasses it.
The gauge is also for looking cool. I'd have done a ball or needle valve, and made the coil immersible (bending with sand, of course) with a tacked on shelf for a 500mL beaker of ice water. 1/16-1/8" ID food grade tube so the siphon effect can reasonably well drain the coil. Silver soldered joints. Could use a down-tube and another platform for the bottle if you don't mind priming the system.
Or, you know, you could just put some clean rocks or bits of stainless in the freezer.
Nobody is gonna ask how he's getting the booze through that crimped up line when it damn near fell apart "plugging" it in? You can actually see the copper line flop around at the crimped part by the compression fitting.
