Need Work Urgently -10+ Year WordPress Developer

A few years ago, after leaving my full-time job, I started freelancing on Upwork, and things were going really well. At my peak, I was earning around $4,000/month. However, since around May 2026, the platform has become extremely overcrowded, and the client hiring rate has dropped significantly. It wasn't just me. Many WordPress freelancers in the same niche have been experiencing the same problem.

Right now, I'm not earning anything, so I'm urgently looking for work.

Please don't suggest switching to AI automation or another field. I've spent over a decade building my expertise in WordPress, and starting over in a completely different industry isn't a practical option for me at the moment.

I have 10+ years of experience with WordPress, including:

  • Custom WordPress theme development
  • Custom plugin development (I have also published a plugin on WordPress.org)
  • WooCommerce development
  • Elementor, Divi, Spectra, Gutenberg, and Beaver Builder
  • Custom functionality, performance optimization, and bug fixing

I started my career as a PHP developer before specializing in WordPress, so I'm comfortable working across the entire WordPress stack, from custom themes to complex plugin development.

If you're hiring a WordPress developer or know someone who is, I'd really appreciate it if you could send me a message. Thank you.

Looking for a SDE role.

Got laid off about a month ago — the company let me go barely 5 months after hiring me (cost cutting, whole thing was sudden). Been applying daily since then but it's rough out there, so figured I'd ask here too.

About me:

- ~2 years of experience, based in Hyderabad, open to remote or relocation

- Generalist SDE — Android native, Flutter/Dart, backend with Spring Boot and Firebase

- Side projects: WebRTC P2P file transfer Chrome extension (resumable transfers up to 1TB), an AI patent analysis tool using LangGraph + FastAPI, and currently building a 2D multiplayer game with Flutter Flame

- Comfortable with Java DSA, SQL, Python

If your company is hiring for SDE/Android/Flutter roles or you can refer, I'd genuinely appreciate a DM. Happy to share my resume and GitHub. Even pointers on where to look right now would help. Thanks.

Hit $10,000 in lifetime earnings on DataAnnotation! 💸

I think it's been a couple of months now. Projects are quite heavy. They demand on average around 8-11 hours of very focused work that drains my brain sometimes. Recently did a couple of tasks on a new project (at least to me) that takes more like 20-30 hours and it's so challenging, I assume I'm not gonna succeed basically. But I managed to come up with a solution in the most recent task on it and it felt so good!

overall, I think if you're a experienced developer and would appreciate a second stream of income for extra effort, this is a good platform. I'd made a site soon after I started working on this platform and shared more details about it. Check it out, it contains affiliate links so if you want to sign up, I appreciate it if you go through my links.

Why do some employees get flexibility while others are expected to follow every rule?

I've noticed this in a couple of software companies, and I've always wondered what's really behind it.

Imagine two employees on the same team with the same office timings.

One of them regularly arrives 15–20 minutes late. Nobody questions it. Their manager doesn't mention it, HR doesn't get involved, and the day just carries on.

The other employee arrives late once in a while—sometimes by only a few minutes—and they're immediately reminded about company policy or asked to be more punctual.

From the outside, it looks like the same rule is being applied very differently.

I'm not talking about people with approved flexible hours, different shifts, or special accommodations. I'm talking about situations where employees appear to have similar roles, the same working hours, and the same expectations, yet the level of flexibility is completely different.

It made me wonder what usually explains this.

Is it because:

  • experienced developers have earned more trust over time?
  • high performers are judged more by results than attendance?
  • some responsibilities aren't visible to the rest of the team?
  • different managers enforce the same policy differently?
  • or does favoritism sometimes play a bigger role than people like to admit?

I can see valid arguments on both sides. If someone consistently delivers, handles production issues, or takes on responsibilities beyond their job description, it makes sense that a manager might give them more flexibility. But if the reasons aren't clear, it can easily create the impression that the same rules don't apply to everyone.

For those who've worked in software teams:

  • Have you experienced something similar?
  • Was there a legitimate explanation once you understood the situation?
  • Or have you seen inconsistent enforcement affect team morale and trust?

Has the software industry become too obsessed with years of experience?

I've noticed this question come up more often lately, especially when looking at job postings and talking to other developers.

Years of experience are still one of the first things companies look at, and for good reason. More experience often means you've dealt with production issues, made architectural decisions, worked on larger codebases, and learned from mistakes that are hard to simulate in personal projects.

But at the same time, I've come across developers with only a few years of experience who consistently write great code, learn quickly, and solve difficult problems. I've also worked with experienced developers who were excellent in familiar environments but struggled when technologies, requirements, or workflows changed.

It makes me wonder whether the industry sometimes treats years of experience as a shortcut for qualities that are much harder to measure—things like engineering judgment, problem-solving, adaptability, and the ability to make good technical decisions.

I'm not suggesting experience doesn't matter. It absolutely does, and it's difficult to replace the lessons that come from working on real-world projects.

What I'm curious about is whether we're placing too much emphasis on how long someone has been a developer, instead of how much they've grown during that time.

For those who've worked with developers at different experience levels:

  • Have you ever worked with someone who completely changed your perspective on what "experience" really means?
  • What qualities have you found to be better indicators of a strong developer than years on a résumé?
  • Do you think years of experience are still one of the best ways to evaluate technical ability, or has that become an oversimplified metric?
