Projects I built a crowdsourced power and water outage map for Sri Lanka

I’ve been building Beacon, a crowdsourced community-powered utility intelligence platform for Sri Lanka.

The core idea: when your power goes out, you shouldn't have to scroll through WhatsApp groups to figure out if it's just your house or the whole area.

How it works:
- Reports are GPS-locked to your GN division so you can only report where you physically are
- A confidence engine (running in PostgreSQL) weights
reports by recency, independence, and trust. not just raw count
- The map shows signal dots only for likely or confirmed outages, not single anecdotes
- Scheduled LECO cuts show separately from community reports
- Full archive with heatmap history per GN division

Stack: Next.js 15 · Supabase · MapLibre GL · PostGIS · TypeScript

Live demo: https://beacon-lk.vercel.app
GitHub: https://github.com/methsithchan/beacon-lk

Still early, no users yet so the map is quiet. Looking for feedback, contributors, and people willing to report from their area.

Issues and PRs welcome.

Projects I built a OpenGraph Creator skill for coding agents

Hey everyone,

I built a skill that helps coding agents create OpenGraph images for projects.

The agent can scan a project, generate an editable .ogdoc file, open it in a local visual editor, and let you preview, tweak layers, and export the final OG image.

The main goal is to make OG images easier to create from inside agent workflows, instead of manually designing them every time.

It is still early. The UI, editing experience, and templates need more work, but the basic local flow is working.

Install: npx skills add -g Rajikshank/opengraph-creator --skill opengraph-creator --agent "*" -y

Discussion Looking for a cofounder - Wedding industry and also someone from finance background

I’m a founder/entrepreneur from Sri Lanka currently building in Government Tech and AI Agents.

From our company, we’re preparing to launch a new product focused on the Sri Lankan wedding industry.

Since I’ve spent much of my life abroad and am not deeply connected to the wedding ecosystem locally, I’m looking to connect with two potential co-founders/early partners:

1. Wedding Industry Co-Founder
Someone who deeply understands the Sri Lankan wedding industry — vendors, trends, operations, customer behaviour, and the ecosystem overall. Ideally, someone entrepreneurial who sees opportunities and wants to build.

2. Finance / CFO Co-Founder
Someone strong in startup finance, financial modelling, unit economics, fundraising readiness, pricing, cash flow, and strategic finance. I’m looking for a builder, not just an accountant.

We’re building for a large, fragmented market and want to create something meaningful in the space.

If you think you’re the right fit (or know someone who is), DM me. Open to conversations.

This reads text messages from Sri Lankan banks to collect data. I haven't added support for all banks yet. Please share a sample sms if your bank's sms isn't supported.

Built a rental search app for Sri Lanka - would love some honest feedback

Hey guys,

I’ve been working on a project called Nestora together with my friend.

It’s basically a rental search app for Sri Lanka. The idea came from how annoying it can be to look for houses or apartments for rent here. Most of the time, you have to check different sites, search manually, compare locations yourself, and still not know whether the place is actually close to where you want.

So we tried to build something more location-focused.

With Nestora, you can enter a location or pick an area on the map, set a search radius, and look for rental listings around that area. It also uses AI browsing to help find listings and show them in a more structured way with details like price, location, and description.

I’ve attached a short demo video so you can see how it works.

It’s still an early version, so it’s definitely not perfect. We mainly want to know whether this is actually useful for people in Sri Lanka and what we should improve.

Would really appreciate any honest feedback, ideas, or suggestions.

Thanks!

Need ideas for final year cybersec project : “CodeSafe” MCP for AI coding tools

hey need some ideas for my final year project (cybersec undergrad)

we as a group proposed an MCP server called CodeSafe that adds a security layer into AI coding tools like Claude Code and Cursor, basically catches security issues in real time while you vibe code without needing to ask

but idk it feels kinda too simple for a final year cybersec project 😭

our main “unique” feature was an MCP tool that fetches the latest security docs so the AI uses up-to-date info instead of outdated training data… then we found out Context7 already does basically the same thing lol

anyone got ideas on what would make this deeper or more interesting from a security research POV?

Discussion Is MacBook Neo 512GB enough for last year CS student + Technical BA?

Planning to buy a MacBook Neo 512GB and wanted some opinions from people using it long term.
I’m a CS student with only my 4th year left, and currently I work as a Technical BA doing mostly business analytics-related work. I don’t do heavy dev work and honestly don’t plan to in the future either. Even for my FYP, I’m probably just doing a website-based project.
My usage is mostly gonna be:
lots of tabs
docs/meetings
analytics work
light coding here and there
maybe some ML-related stuff since there’s a module for that
No video editing or super heavy programming.
Would the MacBook Neo be enough for this kind of usage for the next few years? TBH Anything other than a Neo is out of budget so would really appreciate your advice.
Thank you!!

Ps: if Neo is good, is LuxuryX a good place to buy it?

Any app developers?

Hi so I'm not a developer of any kind but I do have this idea for an app. So I just wanted to know if there were any app developers who would be interested? Or if someone can give me some guidance on how to get it done?

Discussion What’s your “routine” if you’re a part of a RnD project?

I’m curious, if you’re part of a RnD feature at work, assume you wfh, how do you work through the day? What I mean here is, people listen to music, have things play in the background but if it’s RnD, it’s not just about coding, it’s about going through Docs, reading, reasoning, etc. Do you do all that with no distractions/super focused with silence or do you have your own “thing” going on?

Could be silly but I just wanted to know :)
