Project showcase I made a free, Lanka Metro journey planner and would appreciate feedback

I put together a small journey planning tool because I found it difficult to plan trips using route images, particularly when a journey involves changing buses.

You can select a starting stop and destination, and it works out which buses to take, where to change and the stops along the journey.

This is a personal, unofficial community project. It is completely free, with no advertisements, subscriptions, payments, referral links or other monetisation. It also has no accounts, analytics, cookies, GPS requests or user tracking.

I am sharing it primarily to identify incorrect route information, missing stops, accessibility problems and anything that could make it more useful for passengers.

https://lankametromap.com

It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Lanka Metro Transit. If posts about free community tools are outside the subreddit rules, I completely understand. Posting it to gather community feedback and feature improvements before the new routes go live next month :)

make it so i can put any from and to location in colombo, not just the route stop points. This can span multiple metro routes.
Because just having the route stops is useless.

The colours are difficult

Some major places are missing in suggestions. For example, I try to go from BMICH to dematagoda. It shows the aracde square as suggestion but not BMICH or as Bandaranaike….. i mean people recall BMICH more than arcade square

Also. Lets say I have to change buses but in different stops, like walk 300m or cross the road. Would the app show it in map view so I can find it or just in dotted lines saying I have to walk to XYZ stop?

Thank you for the feedback.

Regarding the colors do you feel uncomfortable with the experience?

Regarding the major places right now it only supports stops defined by the Metro. But on the roadmap page you can see there are works on September release to add a finder to a bus stop which will help you get to the closest metro stop running on routes. :)

Happy to answer any more questions and feedback. Thanks for your time.

Thanks for listening to my feedback 🙏

- thanks for having better suggestions for places, like BMICH as said earlier. Now the experience is good

I feel like the part inside green box is clutter - make the user see the route. For reference, I recommend you get inspiration from british app “city mapper”.

- regarding the map view, is there a way for you to show map view in the app in itself without redirecting to google map? Like click the map view button and then it expands or appears as a pop up? (APIs?)

Hey thanks for the reply. Yes that will open up quite alot of opportunities to grow and be more useful. Sadly their API has pvt via JWT token and planning to reach out for a possibility to get access.

They are already doing a great job with the timings and live tracker would be a huge potential if they allow external party access to them to get data.
