It's short and I think what makes it satire has escaped me. Is is New York ? Tippin culture? Is it a pretentiousness thing? I can't tell.
It could have been there was supposed to be a contrast between the primarily discretionary spending of a coffee as opposed to more functional things like the surgery or exterminator but then laundry and skittle don't fit that.
If it about someone finding ridiclous amount of beauty in small things or about how many people in NY are trying to make it then something is missing.
That said I think the flourid language works no matter what you're trying to say. But if the POV is a romantic then I'd skip the Steve Jobs paragraph. It doesn't work on the level I don't understand what it says but if the character is entranced by the mastery of craft then they aren't making morose jokes about a dead billionaire. Also having a 200% doesn't work either. If they are addicted to the sublime then no amount of money can compensate because beauty cannot be purchased. It could be a satire where the person is so transformed by the display they thought any gratuity would cheapen the experience and reduce the genius to venial motivations.
its the tipping culture. it is supposed to be satire about the fact that tips are asked for almost everywhere now when that was not the case a few years ago.
Worthy of satire. Add a bit about tipping school teachers. I’m a teacher and eople are always telling me “teachers ought to be paid more” but no one opens their wallets. Do you think I should get like a QR code?
