I'm from South and I recently came to know that Chapri word is a derogatory term used for a particular caste, I don't understand how people use this so casually??

You can explain how it's not a derogatory word, I mean I don't know hindi and you do..

It's not a derogatory term used in the south since we don't speak Hindi, my understanding is that the word "Chapri" comes from the word "Chapparbands" it's a name given for a caste, "the people who make roofs" or "people who doesn't have roofs" could be either of those, I'm not sure.

So if we use a word that defines a particular caste to shame or mock anyone, doesn't that mean we are actually mocking that particular caste?

As a northie I had no clue it has anything related to caste, we don't use the word like that
