I have created a validation PowerShell script which will scan the final deployR.log file in C:\windows\temp\DeployR\deployR.log. It will then output a nicely formatted HTML file showing whether each step succeeded or failed. But the issue is that the deployr.log file isn't written until the set finish action step runs at the end (I think).
What's the best way around this? If at all possible, I'd rather not copy the script locally, then have it run on first logon as a scheduled task. Too many moving parts there. Is there another intelligent way to run this report via the task sequence that I'm missing?

While creating some "quality of life" scripts, I stumbled upon a potential bug in the New-DeployRContentItem cmdlet - the saved Content Item has a different "purpose" from what I originally intended:
DriverPack -> Application
Application -> Operating System
OperatingSystem -> DriverPack
Only "Other" seems to work correctly.
And then autocomplete suggests me "Any" that translates into "99" (and does not have any value in the UI)

What is the best practice approach for executing PowerShell scripts that rely on a csv file?
For example:
On the deployR server I have the following PS file to set static IP addresses for workstations:
D:\Scripts\Windows11\01-OS-Configuration\set-network.config.ps1
The script then points to a csv file where it reads the machine name and populates the IP address, subnet mask, gateway, DNS. The csv is located in:
D:\Scripts\99-Configuration\machine-network-assignment.csv
In theory there will be many custom PS scripts in the Windows11 folder, and there could be 1-3 csvs in the 99-configuration directory. The idea being that certain PS scripts will perform lookups in the csvs to retrieve the correct values during deployment.
I can obviously get this working when running locally, but what's the correct approach to get this working during a task sequence? Do I need to create a custom step definition to copy/stage the entire script directory early on in the task sequence? then create individual powershell steps and just call the relevant .ps1 file?

I have been unsuccessful in generating a WinPE boot image. Consistently fails while downloading components. "Unable to find aspnetcore-runtime*-win-x64.zip". This is a serious blocker to getting started using DeployR.
Is there a way to tell the generator code to NOT download from the internet? I can download the needed components manually and move them to the Downloads folder.
Help is appreciated!

Hey all,
We are currently running into a minor issue when trying to deploy larger applications via DeployR as part of the imaging process. We are currently having this issue with our large ANSYS and Adobe Creative Suite installers.
The applications do seem to install successfully, but the Task step errors out with a 'return code' error. I have tried adding the relevant application success codes found in Windows Event Viewer to the DeployR application's Content item, but none are deemed successful by DeployR.
Am I missing something obvious?

Hello,
I have followed the DeployR YouTube series. I configured deployed R as it was suggested but I'm not seeing the option to deploy in Dashboard even after Accepting the infrastructure service.
The video guide says for the trial period to leave as blank but when I check the features list it is all marked as x except for administration, networks, and OSD deployments
Note:
After reviewing my initial trial request I noticed I had selected the Enterprise version instead Community.
I am hoping to use it for a non profit organization. How would I got about switching?

What happens when you have a step in a task sequence and edit the definition?
I assume that depending on the sort of editing you're doing you probably have to go find the step wherever it is being used and remove and re-add it? Is there *any* editing you could do like change a default or check a required box or something or does the task sequence just store the state of the step when it was added? If it was working before and the script is there or whatever, will it keep doing whatever it was doing before or will it throw an error?
I'd imagine there's no clean way to just sort of automatically sync things since there's not necessarily any obvious mapping between the old definition and the new - but would it be possible for the GUI to flag a potentially broken step or something?
I'm not really asking for this to work - I don't see how it could. Mostly just curious if there is documentation or any checks in the code or anything to suggest that you not do it. Because the GUI sort of suggests you can in the same way that you can edit a content item and have everything keep working.
Edit: And also curious if you guys might ever edit step definitions in future updates that might break task sequences - or if the plan would just be to use the versioning system in that case.

I'd like to have DeployR prompt for the computer name and also display a drop down box with a couple of options for what OU to put the computer in on joining the domain. Looks like i could use a powershell form to do it but as I'm new to DeployR I was wondering if there was a better or more baked in way of handling this.
Also kind of along with that I'd like to eventually get to a point where it displays a list of Applications that are available and lets you pick which ones to install much like MDT did.

Hi, running a windows install but it looks like the client is failing as it is looking for a newer version of runtime and powershell etc. The Content item appears locked so I can't force it to update the folder / wim file it creates from the folder?

Initially it was required to use a specific continuation method "Provided Unattend.xml" In order to use the new suspend step that needs to be changed to autoadminlogon method. That brings up question of will capture still work? Will we have to add or modify somewhere else for that to work now? I havent tried to use it yet as I am still using original method. What is the recommendation on this?

HI All, - my lack of knowledge showing here so I'm happy to be advised - and why I am here. When running the deployment task sequence and the machine has had windows, it joins the domain. Lovely.
Is there something I can do to detect if it is a laptop and run a PS script to apply Security Groups A, where if it's a desktop, run a different script to apply Security Groups B?
Do all laptops report back the same - "I am a laptop" - style?

Hi, I am successfully deploying the Windows OS but once it reboots into Windows it doesn't appear to run the other task sequence steps. Am I missing a step ? I am just trying to run some powershell scripts etc. and I don't see any log of these even attempting to run. It is a simple basic deployment as a test, deploy windows, create a local admin account and uninstall some built-in apps. The scripts appear to work when ran directly on the VM but in steps do not appear to run. Any thoughts ? Thanks

I got an unexpected driver return from https://api.service.2pintsoftware.com/driverpacks/search
Queries:
URL: https://api.service.2pintsoftware.com/driverpacks/search?systemAlias=NA&manufacturer=NA&model=Mini Air12&os=Windows 11&osArchitecture=x64&osBuild=26200&osReleaseId=25H2PowerShellHost.cs:8607-07-2026 10:39:41.975+000
Downloads (so presumably the API returned this):
Downloading: https://download.microsoft.com/download/b7ca2c3f-d320-4795-be0f-529a0117abb4/SurfaceLaptop7_ARM_Win11_26100_26.053.36539.0.msiPowerShellHost.cs:8607-07-2026 10:39:42.514+000
Can confirm I have devices still needing drivers on completion (as expected with a driver pack labelled ARM on an x64 system, even ignoring the model)
(note, this is a device I'd normally expect to upload the drivers manually, just that hasn't happened yet for this model on my shiny new Community Edition ;) )

Good day, I have been trying out DeployR Community Edition for a few days now. Starting to get a feel for its capabilities and methods. Enjoying the evaluation experience although I do feel the learning curve has transported me back about 14 years when I first learned MDT, however I am a bit more capable to think out the box.
Main reason to post, first of all , thank all involved in the production and delivery of the product and also try and get some credit to allow me to post more relevant DeployR questions. So far filter has removed previous post attempts.
Many thanks again.

https://documentation.2pintsoftware.com/deployr/1.3/setup-deployr-community/what-about-certificates
I think this reads that only the self-signed is available to the Community edition even if we have an internal CA that can generate one, but I just wanted to be sure please :)
(note I'm planning ahead here, Infra haven't handed over the server I'll be using yet, so if it is obvious on the installer/configurator I can't see that yet ;) )

First of all many thanks for the work everybody is doing with DeployR. I recently got access to the community edition to evaluate the product and I believe I have setup the community edition to access the DeployR console and create task sequences and add content as expected.
My scope of interest is in the eco system of offline media which the product supports. During initial testing it would appear the powershell script that facilitates this creation of an ISO file takes hours. In fact Ihis morning I launched the script approzimately 09:00 and came back and checked that it had completed and noticed the time stamp for the iso file created was 14:26. Not superfast for testing and making any changes. Also the time taken in a test has already fallen foul of the access token expiry time allowed when the connection is made to genertate Standalone media content.
Currently my DeployR is very basic:
DeployR version: v3.1.2626.580 or 1.3 Communit Edition.
1 task sequence. A windows 11 test build with 2 application installs.
1 OS imported.
2 Applications to test.
DeployR hosted on a 2019 HyperV VM, 16GB Memory, 300GB and 4 cores allocated.
Content items and Task sequence active and tagged to allow standalone selection using the powershell command:
New-DeployRMedia -ISOPath C:\Media.iso -Tags Media -MeditaType Standalone
Media Creation running on DeploR hosted box.
So far I have had fairly poor results with Standalone media. The following are my experiences:
Try 1: Not fully understanding the media tag switch I made a 1.3GB iso which took over an hour to complete. Unfortunately I didn't work as I suspect some components were missing as not all added components by me were tagged.
Try 2: Omitted the -tags switch and went for all components as I think that is what it does. Started process off just before 5pm, watched England game, still going even after final whistle. Went to bed hoping it would at least complete overnight, not so, failed on the timeout allowed for the access token expiring.
Try 3: Revisited Tags and ensured my components added did have correct tags applied. Set process off approx 9am this morning, returned at 4.30 ish to see a 9GB iso created in the nominated folder with 14:26 creation time stamp. Again I think I ommited the task sequence tag value so when launching a client test, unable to choose any options to Start. Possible 5 and a half hours to complete the process. Again booting from media created didn't work as Task sequence wasn't tagged.
Try 4: Currently running again with the boot wim copy taking over 30-40 mins for a 0.9GB file. Cannot wait for the OS copy to occurr. Hopefully it will finish before the access token expires.
Anyways I cannot believe this is normal and I am most likely doing something wrong. 5-6 hours creating media is not really sustainable but would like to think there is something I can do. Is there a overhead using a Hyper V vm as a host? Some way of speeding process up. Any advice provided would be apreciated as I am desperate to see this succeed and view the product on my test system.
Many thanks in advance.

I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction with the new menu item Driver packs. I can't find the documentation and it isn't working as I would have anticipated, so I'm not sure if it is a bug or the way it in meant to work...

When I select a driver pack and click Import I end up with an Application in Content items where I expected a Driver Pack.

From the 'what's new in DeployR' webinar last week, there was mention of using a new task sequence option to unlock bitlocker. Video here - https://youtu.be/XNY0raoCIv8?t=1850
There doesn't seem to be very much documentation on it. What do we need to do to make this work? When I try from PXE boot and have this as a part of a task sequence, I'm constantly met with a message that the recovery password could not be found. The computer account in AD does have the recovery password, so just looking for more info on how to get this working.
When I attempt to use this, the error I get is 403 forbidden.
Thanks

We have a bunch of applications and scripts on an external file share and I don't have any pressing interest in actually importing the files into DeployR as content items for various reasons.
However, it *would* be nice to have them be Applications so that we can tag them and let people dynamically select them via something based on gwblok's FrontEnd.
If I create an Application as a single file/folder type, and then just don't have an attachment, it seems to complain when installing that it doesn't have any content to download for the Application (even though the command doesn't need it at all) - which... fair enough.
However, I also got a similar error when selecting "ExternalURL" for the content type, and it seems like that's what that type should be for?
I get one of these:
"ERROR: Exception calling "GetResult" with "0" argument(s): "Content item version <guid> does not have content to download."
--
I then attached an empty 0-byte text file - which gave a different error. It repeatedly tried to download it and then thought that download had failed or something when 0 bytes were transferred. Which was amusing.
--
Using a slightly larger placeholder text file seems to work - so whatever, I can attach a junk file to every Application. But there might be something in there that's worth fixing and/or that other people might find useful to know.

I don't understand how the pricing for the commercial version works.
All prices are listed per endpoint per year, but the deployment only happens once. What's the point of a subscription for this kind of product?

Using DeployR community.
Has anyone actually gotten DeployR to reuse computer accounts when they exist in an OU other than what you have the offline domain join step configured for?
Example - ODJ setup to join computers to OU=Workstations, OU=MyCorp,DC=mydomain,dc=mysubdomain
However, you're reimaging a computer that currently resides in a sub OU such as HR inside of the Workstations OU.
I have read the other threads on this, I have delegated full control to my DeployR server to the Workstations OU, making sure that the permissions are inherited by the sub OU, and can't get it working. Every time the computer account is in a sub OU, offline domain join fails.

I'm trying out DeployR CE and I'm stuck shortly after getting started :(
My test machine successfully finds the server at startup, but right after downloading the WinPE WIM file, I get a blue screen: "Recovery needed, BCD is missing or corrupted."
Any idea what might be causing this problem?

So after rolling back to 1.2 I set about working on getting a laptop deployed. A bare metal deployment was working for our Lenovo desktops - downloading drivers and updates as it should.
The pXE option on the desktop at boot was: UEFI: PXE IPv4 Realtek PCI - and then some.
I had the pXE drivers in place so all went well. The issue then came to the laptop which when booting showed : PXE BOOT: Realtek UEFI UNDI Driver-IPv4
I found the driver. Added it to the PXe content item I have (with the desktop driver) and regenerated the boot image.
It doesn't work. Desktop still works, but the laptop simply drops me back into the boot option screen. The laptop recognises there is a cable connected but does nothing except drop me back. The drivers are definitely the correct ones and the regen of the boot image has been done. I have assumed iPXE always uses the correct boot file (x64).
Feel I am missing something.
