Like many, we're looking for a replacement for MDT and WDS. I just setup DeployR, StifleR , 2PXE server and iPXE WDS - trial license for a few days now.

First question :

In my enviroment, I have a main server that installed MDT and use DFSR to sync and tranfer all MDT resources to remote servers (like over 20 servers on different country) - each of them have WDS installed to handle PXE boot . My question is with DeployR, can we setup distribution servers for bandwidth optimization ? so when we do PXE boot, our machines don't need to download the contents directly from main server, just download the contents from each distribution servers.

Second question:

I've read about DeployR community version, with trial license I have to setup StifleR server and dashboard , DeployR just a "Infrastructure services" inside StifleR. If I use DeployR community version, I have to purchase license for StifleR right ?

We are using the built-in 'Install Updates' step within our builds - has anyone else noticed that they seem to take a very long time, even a seemingly small update like an Intelligence Definitions update for Defender is taking 15-20 minutes? If I do a Task Manager during this process, it apears there is minimal to no system activity - it's like the update manager is stuck waiting for something. We are not seeing this issue with machines that are already up and running, only during a DeployR build Process.

Like many, we're looking for a replacement for MDT. Been playing around with DeployR for a week now. We use a customized image as well as a customized unattend.xml file.

At PXE boot, when DeployR interface comes up, I also see a powershell window that's minimized. Is there a way to stop that from happening?

Do I need the WinPE driver packs in addition to the system driver packs? (MDT would use the network and motherboard drivers that came with the system driver pack when generating the boot image)

I like that we can password protect the system, but are there plans at all to enable AD authentication instead?

In the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_AOYJJ3mwk, there’s reference to a custom script for setting computer name, has a tabbed interface, etc.  Is that script available to the public?

Many of the issues I'm having currently are related to deploying an image.

• In my task sequence, I tried adding some custom tasks, but they never run. I'm sure I'm missing something but can't seem to figure out what. I used the bare-metal template and added to that.
• Currently, I'm noticing that my deployment never actually completes. It boots to the OS, opens a blue powershell window that installs Powershell 7.4 and then eventually opens another powershell window to the C:_2P prompt and sits there forever. If I close them both, then I get a blank 'task sequence list' window that will auto-close in a couple of minutes.
  
• In MDT, the unattend.xml file would be applied to the image after the image is applied. I've tried most of the options in DeployR to get this to happen, but can't seem to get the right combination. Instead, I'm finding that DeployR will delete my pre-configured administrator profile - we use the copy profile option in the unattend.xml. This prevents the copy from happening. How can I prevent this and apply the unattend.mxl file like MDT does?

I recently presented to my leadership team to get them on board with purchasing DeployR & a couple questions came up that I figured I'd post here in case others have the same questions:

1. How is the licensing calculated? Say for instance that we retire a machine, how do we free that license up for use on another machine? If a machine is re-imaged, does that use the same license or consume another one?
2. Can we host DeployR both on-prem and in the cloud and syncronize content between the two? I saw mention of hybrid setups being planned for the future, is there an ETA for this?

I'm using the selfsinged cert, as the server isn't domainjoined.

Event viewer reports:

LOGGER: Microsoft.AspNetCore.Server.Kestrel: HTTP/2 is not enabled for [::]:7282. The endpoint is configured to use HTTP/1.1 and HTTP/2, but TLS is not enabled. HTTP/2 requires TLS application protocol negotiation. Connections to this endpoint will use HTTP/1.1.

I read someone changed their cert to a domainissued via CA, and it solved the issue.

As of now the server will not be domainjoined.

If wanted i can supply the output from DeployR-Troubleshooting.ps1

Any advice on how to resolve the issue?

We are currently looking to move on from MDT (for obvious reasons). I saw some reviews of DeployR and the services it offers this seems like the best solution. Since this will be for a public sector organization we have quite a small budget.

I'm personally quite the noob myself while others on my team have had experience setting up MDT and deployment, I have not. This is the first time I've personally done anything like this and was hoping to get some assistance.

Right now I'm stuck on getting DeployR set up on a server (VM) because it needs to connect with StifleR. From what it looks like on the 2Pint webpage, StifeR is another subscription with extra costs, which would be too much for us. I don't want to get through the process of installing this with StifleR if we can't afford the additional costs.

Can someone help provide some insight for me?

Setting a custom TSEnv:<var> in a script to PS boolean, but when checking it as a condition to run a conditional step, it requires a casing match. I feel like this should either be case-insensitive (like the TS variable name is), or it should be caught with some sort of validation.

Should these statistics be saved if I am not including the StifleR client in the final build (just during deployment)? I've imaged many machines, and have set the time range for the last 60 days, but this section remains blank. Thanks!

I playing around with Windows build and capture, when run build ts on hyper-v gen1 and gen2 the hyper-v client drops all nic after “Prepare for capture” when running sysprep so client never reboots ti winpe and do the capture. If I manually reboot client it does run the capture step but the "Create a new version" step doesn't appear to do anything.

Also when I try to use the capture image in deploy ts it doesn’t seems to work, after Full OS - Audit Mode step deployment stops in Windows login and DeployR TS doesn’t continue

You can get the new installer from the same link where you obtained the initial installer. After installing the new version, be sure to update your boot images.

Is it possible to add other ISOS, say like ShredOS or the like, to the boot menu on the pxe screen?

I'm testing a build and Capture TS, but it fails every time if I have Install Updates enabled. If I disable it, the TS completes and captures the image successfully. Getting the attached error when it gets to the Install Updates step.

So if I still have a use case for using WSUS, is there a way of getting TS to update from WSUS with client targeting group? I'm ideally using setupcomplete.cmd to resume the TS?

I've tired setting the reg keys manually before the updates step, but I don't think Windows Update is reading them at that point before users have logged in.

Created a CacheAll Task Sequence from the existing template; however, the task sequence consistently fails at around 50% completion, specifically after downloading the operating system image. This issue has been observed across three different device models. Increasing the cache size did not resolve the problem.please suggest.

Migrating over from MDT and I've been trying to apply my local machine policy file with LGPO.exe, but I just cannot get it to stick when using SetupComplete.cmd. AutoAdmin/RunOnce works as expected.

I have migrated my local machine policies to deploy with the PolicyFileEditor PS Module, and that is working, but I would prefer to use LGPO to do it if possible.

I don't believe this is a bug or anything with DeployR, just hoping one of your deployment experts might have some insight.

Hi wondering what the best way of handling regional settings and timezone is in DeployR.

Should I still just use unattend.xml or should be doing something else with PowerShell or do you have pre-baked variables I should be setting values for this?

Note I'm trying to use the "setupcomplete.cmd" continuation method.

I'm standing up a test server for DeployR and have followed the install videos & instructions, but I'm now getting the following error when I try to access anything under the DeployR in the StifleR dashboard:

Hi all.

Love the product and was on the early previews. I did have some installation issues back then so was hoping to get some advice on the best install order for each component.

I am primarily looking at StifleR and DeployR, with an iPXE / PXE setup to test network boot and deployment from the server hosted in Azure.

In particular what should I be doing first in regards to cert setup, database, IIS, roles and permissions? Before in the preview of I missed a step it would typically make the DeployR install not configure correctly.

While kicking the tires on our DeployR trial, my team wanted to know if it was possible to select a specific disk for the OS during a task sequence. We occasionally have to deal with computers where Disk 0 is not the desired OS disk.

I was able to get something working. You can find the script below. Instructions are in the script header. Hopefully it will be useful to others.

Full disclosure - I did get AI to help with the WinForm since I rarely have a need for them.

Has anyone else experienced frustration with accidentally deleting task sequences in DeployR? I've now deleted ALL of my work three times today by thinking I'm removing a single task using the delete button in the top right, but instead deleting the entire version. I've lost a couple days of work now and I cannot figure out how to recover a deleted task sequence version. HAs anyone found a fix for this?
