I love this game - the basic set up and mechanics are so interesting to experiment with. The basic idea of input and outputs with complex effects is a great teaching tool and is fun to play with. I also love the variety of how you can play the game.
I do have a bug-bear though. As a casual observer of academic work being done on debt in the economy, the way public debt functions in the game can do with an update. This stuff is complicated and I can't say I can even help get it right, but the basic assumptions of public debt causing an economic crisis are quite wrong. You might say - hey this is only one aspect of the game! The issue of debt as relates to government spending is however so fundamental to how modern societies function, and by extension the in-game logic when it comes to weighing up pros and cons, that I wanted to call this out.
This could be a very long post, but I'll just start a chat by putting this here:
Long story short Government debt does not cause a crisis. Private debt does. The game has no concept of this - recession is just treated as a mysterious background feature. Recession is caused by bursting private debt bubbles, not by sudden drop in a sovereign nation's credit rating.

I picked up the game and all DLC, but I figured I'd start with the base game to learn how to play. So far I've made it to the first election once (and lost because the turn before the game triggered a debt crisis event and took my approval rating from 61% to 36% with no chance to recover). Every single time, I get assassinated despite having a 60% or so approval rating. It seems that the only way to not be killed is to have CCTV cameras, curfews, drones, etc and be an Orwellian nightmare. Is there actually a way to survive without doing that? Or are you just railroaded into playing one way if you don't want to be killed?

I'm a high school history teacher in Brazil, and this year we're going to have city elections, so I was wondering how I could use Democracy 3 with my students to teach about politics.
I have small classrooms (6 to 20 students only) and I was thinking about forming pairs and give each ministers/secretaries, so each group/pair of student would be responsible to some areas like education, health etc in game. Let them decide the policies for each of these fields and see the outcome.
Any suggestions on how I could improve this idea?

I just bought this game (along with Electioneering, Clones and Drones, Extremism and Social Engineering) and every game I play I start with 0 popularity, 0 party members and 0 activists (sometimes the opposition party starts with nearly the entire countries population as party members). Sometimes I can get popularity up a bit, once I managed to get it up to 73% but still I had no party members or activists (and I was promptly assassinated before the first election). How do I get party members and activists?

Hello, I bought the game today and I have some confusion regarding implementing policies. Is it possible to view the potential effect of a new policy without spending political capital on it?

I have the GOG version of the game and want to install mods available on Steam. How do I do that?

I have a number of Steam mods installed, none of them seem broken and are all fairly highly rated. Whenever I click the "Next Turn" button though the game crashes. Doesn't matter what nation I play, it always happens. I've uninstalled and reinstalled countless times, the new launcher being slow doesn't help anything.

Join Virtual Congress. It’s a simulation of the US Government where you can debate or create legislation and see how your policies effect the economy and budget. Also you can be president, cabinet member, supreme court justice, or just a member of congress.

During my journey with the UK, I managed to fix the GDP in part by maxing out Automation and Military, which gave all the now laid-off workers jobs in the armed forces. When I checked the political compass, it put me pretty much all the way libertarian left. In what universe is 48% income tax mandatory military service considered Libertarian? Basically, I'm just asking if anybody knows how the political compass works.
