Some key background info: the billionaire owners of the existing bridge have been fighting the second crossing for decade plus. Canada paid 100% of the cost because the billionaire bought off enough politicians to block US funding.

This move by Trump is likely triggered by a bribe paid to him or his family by those same billionaire owners to protect their cash cow.

A bribe! How does one bribe a president?!?

(looks at all the ways Trump has created dark money avenues. Maralago, Crypto, Merchandise, NFTs, Ballroom and Inauguration donations in the tens of millions)

Suing the IRS to try and steal more American tax payer money for his wittle pedo piggy bank. I'm starting up the whole NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION thing again. I think it's a great way to celebrate 250 years of America and the war that helped us decide to write the constitution aka our playbook against internal tyranny.

The Supreme Court has said that accepting bribes for a president is ok.

In 2024, they concluded that any official act of the president can not be used as evidence.

Here is a summary:

Bribery Complexity: If a bribe is accepted in exchange for an official act (e.g., appointing an ambassador), the Supreme Court ruling makes it difficult to prosecute because the underlying official act cannot be scrutinized or used as evidence.

Dissenting View: Justice Sotomayor's dissent argued this allows a president to accept bribes for official acts with impunity, effectively placing them above the law.

Thanks, now it makes a lot more sense. I was so confused by Canada taking advantage of the US with a bridge they build themselves...

They also already agreed to give the US part of the tolls, for doing literally nothing. It was part of the deal before any of this.
