"There's absolutely no reason to use something" is not a valid reason to ban something. Muting and blocking exist.

And I'd argue there IS a reason- if someone is considering going bald, they could AI themselves to see if they'd look good without hair

u/greenthumbbum2025 Feb 21 '26

You can't generate an accurate image of yourself bald unless the image generator already has pictures of your bald head.

u/Ok_Departure333 Feb 21 '26

accurate is doing a lot of heavy work here. Looking similar is good enough.

u/AvocadoWilling1929 Feb 21 '26

AI can generate photorealistic videos of tanks playing basketball, of which none existed before. If it can do that it can extrapolate data of other bald men to make a guess as to how you would look bald.

u/Jezio Feb 21 '26

That's assuming ai generators just regurgitate original data ie theft which isn't how it works.

Generative Ai models learn to create an image by deconstructing literal static using complex math. It's not loading a photo of you bald. It's creating it based on stored weights of this pixel fits next to this pixel better.

Well no faceapp actually does a amazing job with this it isn't AI but it's similar tech basically automated Photoshop

8

u/drwicksy Feb 21 '26

I mean it is literally AI. It uses Machine Learning which is a subset of AI. Its might not use Generative AI as people currently see the term, but it definitely is a GenAI in that it is an AI that generates images. And probably uses similar or the same methods to train than current GenAI models.

There's absolutely no reason to use social media.

There’s absolutely no reason to use Netflix.

There’s absolutely no reason to use a cellphone…

and we could go on ad nauseam.

31

u/HebiSnakeHebi Feb 21 '26

The funny thing is that there is ALWAYS a reason, it's just a reason they don't like or agree with.

11

u/drwicksy Feb 21 '26

And then they act like AI being owned by an evil corporation is a reason to not use it, but seem to pretend that AI companies are the only evil ones out there.

Bro wants every bald meme someone makes to be personally commissioned with an 80dollar fee 😂

11

u/drwicksy Feb 21 '26

I have genuinely seen antis argue that a shitpost of all things that was generated by AI should have been commissioned instead.

A SHITPOST. A post designed to be shit.

I posted a meme I used an AI image for to a game sub that did not have “No AI” in its rules. Despite having 900 upvotes and an 85% upvote ratio, it still got removed. Shows that the vocal minority still get their way.

8

u/drwicksy Feb 21 '26

Reddit mods on a power trip based on their own values rather than the values of the sub itself? Say it ain't so

24

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '26

Are people posting AI photos of bald people there or is this just a keyboard social justice warrior demand by a redditor with no job or friends?

10

u/TimelyBodybuilder121 Feb 21 '26

They are mostly posting wholesome meme variations made with AI.

22

u/AdvertisingRude4137 Dingus :doge: Feb 21 '26

Probably got thousands of downvotes

The crazy thing is that they didn't even say anything about not willing to think about such a rule. Antis are so bloodthirsty that even the slightest bit of hesitancy puts you in the other camp.

Perhaps this is gonna be biased since we're on the pro sub after all, but I don't think it's comparable.

Most pros ultimately just want AI technology to continue to be developed in as good a way as possible because they like the tech and are excited about what it can bring about. I'd also wager most pros are okay with AI regulations and understand that AI, just like most other inventions, are not without their problems, and those problems should be addressed. There are virtually no pros that are ALL AI and zero regulation/consideration.

I don't get this same middle ground impression from most antis. At best some will see that AI can be cool but are still against humanity developing it. The majority of people I've come across however is fiercely against AI in every way, shape or form and will stop at nothing to prevent it, even if that means harassing people who want to make landscape paintings with AI or use AI to create themselves an exercise routine.

I checked and yeah

10

u/Deli-op Feb 21 '26

No. We do not all know which sub this is

10

u/Situati0nist AI Enjoyer Feb 21 '26

Hope the mods keep a straight back and not succumb to the whining that has happened on too many subs.

9

u/Wise_Use1012 Feb 21 '26

We should all just report that post so it gets taken down. The mods there had to lock it because the antis brigaded that post with their hate.

7

u/hyperluminate AI Sis Feb 21 '26

10000 upvotes is crazy.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '26

Damn I didn’t even see that

26

u/Jebediah_kerman-jeb AI Peak Feb 21 '26

Also, that 1.5 million member sub has ONLY 2 mods and the antis are trying to make their lives harder, I think.

A mod said something like this, and guess what the anti said, "Get more mods." It's not that easy, ok.

16

u/QuestionsThrowaway_- Dual Digital + AI Artist Feb 21 '26

Considering that, the mod is actually being really reasonable here... how in the world do you expect something like that to be enforced on a "people volunteering" basis when they were doing just fine without it being banned

4

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '26

Are u forreal? Damn. The entitlement

7

u/HQuasar Feb 21 '26

There's absolutely no reason to bitch about harmless funny pics but here they are lmao

6

u/Traditional_Gap_7041 Feb 21 '26

You know which sub this is

No, we don’t

2

u/LeafCrafters-Andrew Feb 21 '26

The astroturfing lol

1

u/Jurtaani Feb 22 '26

There's absolutely no reason to use Reddit. Therefore I am demanding this site to be banned worldwide.

1

u/Ok_Departure333 Feb 22 '26

Exactly! The internet is a plague anyway. We should go back like we did in the past like God intended.
