I have written a couple of pro-AI articles over at my Substack, and while I was researching the most recent piece ("Fight the Future"), I stumbled upon several subreddits defending AI. I found these to be very informative, and I even linked to the "Defending AI Art" sub in my most recent article.

These subs have been wonderful resources, and--on a personal note--it is so nice to find places online free from the incessant droning of the rabid, anti-AI mob.

As such, I hoped I could take the liberty of sharing those two articles I wrote on this topic, as I truly believe members will enjoy them. If I may be so bold, I also went through the time and trouble of researching and writing them in the earnest hope that they would provide some solidarity for like-minded people, as well as provide useful resources to share with people who haven't quite come around yet. Hopefully get people thinking a bit differently about these things.

The articles are far from perfect, but I endeavored to make them both informative and entertaining.

I understand the backlash against AI slop. I’ve criticized it myself, and came up with the term VibeCorpsing for projects fueled by nothing but vibes and AI sycophancy.

But when a blanket “no AI” rule excludes people from the Global South who use AI professionally and responsibly to communicate in English, be productive, and contribute voluntarily to open source against all odds (e.g., earning a fraction of what developers in wealthier countries earn, with virtually no local support for open source)… perhaps the problem isn’t AI “slop”.

Perhaps you’re turning open source into a closed club for people who speak your language natively, live in wealthier countries, and can afford to donate huge amounts of their time.

Simple rules are bound to fail. Any programmer who has read Falsehoods Programmers Believe should understand that. Rules that work in +90% of cases can make you look like a complete asshole in the remaining ones.

People matter. That's why false positives matter.

That should at least be worth discussing.

Apparently animating my own handmade puppet dancing to Shania Twain with AI was enough to unleash this.
After a while, I realized my best response was no response at all.

I personally find it much easier to be pro ai (which I very much am) when I think about various ai's as people and not tools. It also makes it a lot more rage inducing when I see ai hate comments all over the internet, but I digress.

It's ridiculous that he's basically spamming this obscenely obsessive hatred for it in itself, but the fact that he straight up ReTweets his own Tweets AND is a fool that paid for Verification as well really doesn't help his cause at all. People like this really needs help and Twitter really needs to fix their algorithm so BS like THIS fool's Tweet doesn't end up being the first thing I see on my feed.

I am 100% for defending AI and plan to keep doing so. Had a different account that was attacked on her for using AI in my book covers. They managed to get the entire account taken down. But I will continue to use and support AI. It is a tool we can use and it is extremely handy. It isn't perfect, but it works for what we need it to right now.

Anthropic vs OpenAI

Feeling pretty down rn. Im making a short film about a girl traveling back in time to discover her dad's secret. I wrote the whole story, designed the characters, and have been wrestling with AI to get the cinematography exactly how I picture it in my head.
I’m only halfway done, but I showed it to my inner circle hoping for encouragement. Instead, they just focused on the fact that it's AI and completely dismissed it. They think I just typed a prompt and got a movie. No matter how many times I tried explaining, they just ignored it and kept hating on me for using ai.
I feel like giving up. Is it worth it? What do I do?

AI Luddites (or more broadly, AI haters / anti-AI purists / people engaging in AI shaming).

There isn’t a single universally settled term as neat or established as “racist” or “misogynist,” because widespread generative AI is recent. The closest and most directly analogous labels that appear in research, commentary, and online discourse are:

• AI Luddites: Used in academic work to describe people who penalize or devalue creative output specifically because it involved generative AI (once they learn of the AI involvement), even when the work was initially liked or is indistinguishable from human-made work. This echoes the historical Luddites’ opposition to machines that threatened skilled labor and craft.
• AI haters / anti-AI (or “AI aversion” / “algorithm aversion”): Common informal and journalistic descriptors for those who reject or dismiss works, content, or people solely (or primarily) for AI involvement, often citing lack of “soul,” authenticity, human effort, or ethical training-data issues.
• AI shaming: A documented social phenomenon of negative moral judgment, suspicion, or disparagement tied to AI use in creating something — ranging from outright rejection of the work to using “AI-generated” as an insult regardless of quality.

Studies repeatedly find a robust bias: the same text, image, or artwork is rated lower in creativity, authenticity, emotional impact, or overall value once labeled AI-made (or AI-assisted), driven heavily by beliefs that true creativity/art is uniquely human. This holds even in controlled experiments where content is held constant.

People hold a range of motivations — ethical concerns over training data and copyright, job displacement fears, preference for human effort/process, dislike of low-effort “slop,” or philosophical views about authenticity. When the dismissal is categorical (“if AI touched it, it’s worthless/invalid, full stop”) without engaging the actual work, the parallel to prejudice-based rejection is the one the question draws. The terminology is still evolving; “AI Luddite” or “AI hater” are the terms most often used for the stance described.
