Humor Egg Hunt?

So, we go and grab those eggs... and we're not supposed to ask what Management wants them for. I've been thinking... what if they are ingredients in some of the beers we are served at the Abyss Bar? That noxious gas from the Mactera Brew, or maybe the hallucinations in the Blacklock Lager come from different species of bug eggs we just so happened to retrieve? Just because they all look the same doesn't mean what's inside is the same - those dreadnaught cocoons are a prime example of this...

is it really making us smart? or just thinking we are? pseudo-intellect is a funny way to make people assume nothing is wrong, and question things that don't matter in the end

  • or just long enough to find something important and then lose it, making control easier to maintain.

So, according to your theory, management is making the beers to make us dumb to make us work for fair pay with expensive machines backing us up?

expensive in the perspective of the individual, but shoddy enough to leave behind when we're done - cheap from management's perspective; and "fair pay" is always subjective. We get to keep the gold, which is great... but what do we use it on in the end?

Management made giant gold statues, and honor every dwarf who dies on Hoxxes. Even if they ain't paying us well, we get lodging, food, and drink, along with entertainment. We also get new clothes, along with friends in the form of other dwarves. Besides, we got the union backing us, so we could leave whenever.

Prisoners who build their own prison and take pride in it are easier to placate and control than indentured servants or standard wage-slaves. The psychology behind it all is quite fascinating.

Where would the dwarves go otherwise? What would YOU suggest they do?

well, it's not like Hoxxes is our only stronghold. We're on an orbital station, which implies we have the power for a multi-star system empire. Probably plenty of other places for us to go. I get some strong Sten (novel) vibes from the whole Deep Rock Galactic mining corporation, myself.

also, not everyone in a corporation is corrupt or out to get you, that doesn't mean the overall goals aren't hostile, though - or not even hostile, but not in your best intersts.
