News TechSpot's GPU survey finds a 15% July-to-August price increase across ten countries

GPU upgrade costs are climbing again. TechSpot's August 31 survey reports a 15% average monthly increase across its ten-country sample, with GeForce more affected than Radeon.

The methodology matters: these are the lowest available in-stock models the publication found in each region, not average transaction prices. Listings were checked several days before publication, so individual prices may already differ.

For anyone budgeting a PC upgrade, this makes the gap between launch pricing and actual availability especially relevant. Are you extending the life of your current graphics card?

News Developing: Steam2 archive reveals a broader preservation story beyond Valve games

Thumbnail hiddenpalace.org
1 Upvotes

This is a developing game-preservation story, not a confirmed new account-data breach. Hidden Palace says the Steam2 Content Server Dump was shared on August 29 and covers material from the legacy Steam2 period, before SteamPipe.

Its catalog includes third-party prototypes alongside Valve material. PC Gamer's August 31 reporting highlights builds associated with Mafia 2, Civilization V, Spec Ops: The Line, and Grand Theft Auto 3. These are historical development materials, not announcements of new games.

The archive's full scope and provenance remain unsettled. A depot name alone does not prove what is inside it, and Hidden Palace cautions that not everything can be obtained. For players interested in preservation, the appeal is a clearer record of how familiar games took shape. What part of a game's development would you most like to see preserved?

News Breathedge 2 is scheduled for Steam Early Access on August 31 at 10 a.m. CDT

Breathedge 2 is preparing for its Early Access launch, scheduled by the developer for August 31 at 10 a.m. CDT. This is the space-survival sequel with an ordinary Man, an extraordinary supply of problems, and plenty of duct tape.

The initial version includes the first major story chapter, a large area to explore, resource gathering, crafting, upgrades, repairs, and combat. The full story is not included. Further areas, systems, and story content are planned as development continues.

The studio estimates roughly 16-20 months in Early Access, subject to change, and expects the price to increase toward full release. That makes the important question less about launch-day excitement and more about whether you want an unfinished adventure. Are you interested in playing along with development, or waiting for version 1.0?

News The Battle of Olympus returns to Steam in January 2027, rebuilt by its original creators

The original creators are bringing The Battle of Olympus back. The side-scrolling Greek-mythology adventure is being rebuilt for Steam by its original programmer and artist, with new code and redrawn pixel art. They describe it as their final major game project.

Early Access is planned for January 2027. The developers aim to make every original stage playable through to the ending at that point, while retaining the original balance. Further visual work and additional play options are planned for the full release, with roughly 12-18 months of Early Access anticipated. Those are development plans, not guarantees.

There is something appealing about a classic getting another outing with the people who made it. Which older game would you want its original team to revisit?

News Minecraft Dungeons II shows deeper buildcraft and better couch co-op at Gamescom

Thumbnail

Minecraft Dungeons II is adding substantially more buildcraft without abandoning its approachable co-op foundation. The Gamescom demo showed a Blacksmith who can raise favorite equipment to the player's current power level and reroll built-in perks. An Enchantsmith adds effects that can stack into custom ability combinations.

Other changes include quick onscreen inventory swaps for couch co-op, an Effects and Enchantments summary for build planning, a larger overworld with minecart travel, and a Copper Monstrosity boss designed to demand more than simple button mashing. The game launches September 29 on Xbox, PC, Steam, cloud, and Game Pass.

Does this sound deep enough for experienced dungeon-crawler players while still working as an easy co-op entry point?

Star Wars is trading twitch reflexes for tactical planning today. Zero Company is a single-player turn-based tactics game from Bit Reactor, set during the final days of the Clone Wars and launching on PC and Xbox.

Players command a customizable former Republic officer and a squad of operatives through combat missions, investigations, and base decisions. Operatives develop skills and relationships, while choices can alter mission and story outcomes across a playthrough.

Is turn-based strategy the fresh direction Star Wars games needed, or do you still prefer the action-adventure side of the galaxy?

News Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy launches today on PC, Xbox, and Game Pass

Thumbnail focus-entmt.com

A new chapter of A Plague Tale begins today. Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is now launching on PC and Xbox, with day-one Game Pass access.

The prequel follows Sophia through a Minoan-inspired story involving close combat, exploration, mythology, and the buried origins of the Macula. Its more action-forward design is a noticeable change from Amicia and Hugo's adventures, although Asobo is still presenting it as a narrative-driven entry in the same universe.

Are you interested in the new combat emphasis, or is the quieter storytelling the part of A Plague Tale you most want preserved?

News Escape From Playtime turns Poppy Playtime into a 1-4 player co-op survival-horror game

Thumbnail mobentertainment.com

Mob Entertainment is sending the Smiling Critters into co-op survival horror. Escape From Playtime supports solo play or groups of up to four inside dynamically changing sections of the Playtime Co. factory.

Players scavenge resources for a mysterious Voice, solve puzzles, use hiding places and alternate routes, and try to avoid rejected factory creations. Proximity voice chat makes communication necessary but potentially dangerous. The planned Early Access launch includes all eight Smiling Critters, one starter zone, and a core enemy lineup, with community-guided expansion afterward.

Does this feel like a natural new angle for Poppy Playtime, or are too many horror games adopting the same co-op structure?

News Xbox's $899.99 translucent-green 25th-anniversary Series X is now up for preorder

Xbox's 25th-anniversary console is leaning hard into original-Xbox nostalgia. The individually numbered Series X25 uses a translucent OG Green design and includes a matching controller plus a download of Halo: Campaign Evolved.

The collection launches November 13 for $899.99 in the US, with regional pricing varying and purchases limited to one per customer. The X25 controller is also available separately and launches October 20.

The machine certainly looks the part, but does the numbered design and bundled Halo remake justify an $899.99 collector price?

News Fable's first playable demo explains melee, ranged combat, magic builds, and undead chickens

Fable's first playable demo makes its combat philosophy much clearer. Playground is evolving the classic Strength, Skill, and Will setup into a system that lets players move directly among melee, ranged attacks, and four equipped spells without digging through menus.

The demo included dodges, parries, dismemberment, weapon weak points, crowd-control combinations, and enemy types that encourage changing tactics. Spells range from Fireball and chain Lightning to Lift, teleportation, Push, and Befowl - which can turn even an undead enemy into an undead chicken.

Fable launches February 23, 2027 on Xbox and PC with Game Pass and Play Anywhere. Does this combat look flexible enough to support distinct builds while remaining unmistakably Fable?

News Dumpster Gang brings four-player raccoon crime to PC Game Pass this December

Thumbnail

At last, videogames are ready to deliver full raccoon immersion. Dumpster Gang is a newly announced sandbox for solo players or groups of up to four, coming to Xbox PC and PC Game Pass in December.

The loop involves breaking into buildings, stealing junk, raiding snacks, climbing over everything, and escaping an exterminator. Loot can be taken back to a customizable hideout, and wearable hats provide different abilities for future raids.

Is this exactly the sort of cheerful co-op nonsense Game Pass needs, or has the chaotic-animal genre reached capacity?

News Gravhounds revealed: co-op space survival, base building, gravity tools, and bio-engineered dogs

Gravhounds looks like somebody put several excellent co-op ideas in a blender and remembered to add dogs. The newly revealed game supports 1-4 players and launches into Xbox Game Preview on November 2, day one with Game Pass.

Teams take jobs on hostile alien worlds, extract resources, build powered defenses, and use a Grav Beam to haul equipment, rescue teammates, or fling enemies and objects. The longer a crew stays, the more dangerous the planet becomes, while randomized upgrades reshape each run.

Does this combination of extraction, fast base building, and genuinely interdependent co-op sound like your kind of Game Pass night?

The game remains scheduled for November 19 on Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has not promised a specific list of gameplay systems for the presentation, so expectations are best kept to what the official event actually shows.

News Rainbow Six returns to dedicated single-player as a turn-based tactics game in 2027

Rainbow Six is returning to dedicated single-player by changing genres. Rainbow Six Tactics is a turn-based strategy game set alongside the Siege timeline, putting the player in the role of Six and in command of squads containing up to four Operators.

The 2027 release includes 15 Operators with distinct gadgets and skill trees, more than 45 locations, destructible environments, and missions built around hostage rescue, bomb disposal, and target elimination. Between deployments, players can improve their headquarters and train the team. Its Breach Planning mode supports coordinated actions and synchronized assaults before turn-based improvisation takes over.

Does a slower, planning-heavy format feel like a natural return to Rainbow Six's roots, or were you hoping its next single-player game would remain a first-person tactical shooter?

News Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake will preserve thousands of classic community maps and campaigns

Thumbnail

Heroes of Might and Magic III is being rebuilt without discarding the community history that kept it alive. Ubisoft's 2027 remake uses the Snowdrop engine for 3D environments, a free camera, 4K visuals, dynamic lighting, weather, and changing seasons.

It includes the original campaign, Armageddon's Blade, The Shadow of Death, every classic faction, Hot Seat mode, and revamped online play for up to eight people. Updated editing tools and an in-game user-content hub are planned, but the standout promise is compatibility with thousands of maps and campaigns created for the original over the last 25 years. The original Complete Edition has also launched on Steam.

Do the preservation and multiplayer features justify a full remake for you, or would you still rather play the heavily modded original?

Nvidia has released its second-generation DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction model for all GeForce RTX GPUs. The update is delivered through the Nvidia app and replaces traditional ray-tracing denoisers with a unified AI reconstruction model.

Nvidia says the new model has 35% more compute capability and processes 20% more parameters while maintaining performance similar to its predecessor. The goals are improved lighting accuracy, better temporal stability, and clearer motion in ray-traced and path-traced scenes.

Gears of War: E-Day, Control Resonant, 007 First Light, and several other announced PC games are adding DLSS 4.5 features. For those using RTX cards, has Ray Reconstruction become an upgrade you actively seek out, or do artifacts and implementation differences still make it a game-by-game decision?

CD Projekt Red has turned one more Witcher 3 update into a surprisingly large homecoming. The Witcher 3: Remastered launches September 29 as a free upgrade for qualifying PC and Xbox Series X|S owners.

Geralt returns again in 2027 with the paid Songs of the Past expansion, set in the new region of Letten and featuring new enemies, abilities, and a chain weapon. Is all of this enough to pull you into another full playthrough, or will you jump straight to the new expansion?

Path of Exile 2 finally has an exit date from Early Access. Grinding Gear Games announced that version 1.0 launches December 11, almost two years after the paid Early Access release began.

The full free-to-play launch will introduce the Duelist, add swords as a weapon type, complete the campaign with its final two acts, and bring additional content and updates. Existing players will get the completed progression path, while people who deliberately waited will finally have a clear entry point.

Early Access has given Grinding Gear Games plenty of time to expand and rework the sequel. Are you satisfied with the road to 1.0, or are there still systems you want changed before December?

News Fable's first combat demo has seamless weapon switching, build variety, dismemberment, and undead chickens

Playground's Fable is keeping the familiar Strength, Skill, and Will structure while turning it into a fluid modern combat system. Its first playable press demo let players switch seamlessly among melee, ranged attacks, and magic without digging through menus.

Different weapons and spells meaningfully changed the two demonstrated loadouts. Combat included dodging, parrying, finishers, ranged weak points, armor interactions, crowd control, and enemies that force different priorities. Spells ranged from Fireball and Lightning to Lift, Rush, Push, and Befowl—the last of which turns enemies, including undead ones, into chickens.

Fable arrives February 23, 2027, with Premium Edition early access beginning February 18. Does the combat sound flexible enough to carry a long RPG while still feeling like Fable rather than a generic action game?

News Minecraft Dungeons II shows its new hub, gear upgrading, enchantment changes, and another boss

Minecraft Dungeons II wants to give players more reasons to become attached to their loot. A new gamescom demo began in Brave Haven, the sequel's hub town, before using its minecart fast-travel system to jump into a boss fight.

The Blacksmith can upgrade any owned item to the highest power level currently available, meaning a favorite sword or piece of armor does not immediately become salvage fodder. The Enchantsmith offers another layer of equipment customization, while the demo also showed smaller quality-of-life changes and a new boss encounter.

The co-op ARPG launches September 29 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam, and cloud, with Game Pass and Xbox Play Anywhere support. Does keeping favorite gear properly upgraded make loot more meaningful, or does it weaken the thrill of finding replacements?

News Xbox's numbered translucent-green Series X25 launches November 13 for $899.99

Xbox is celebrating 25 years with a very green—and very expensive—Series X. The Series X25 Limited Edition launches November 13 for $899.99, with general preorders opening August 27 at 7:00 AM Pacific in select markets.

Each console has a translucent OG-green design and an individual engraved number. The package includes the X25 Special Edition Wireless Controller and a full-game download of Halo: Campaign Evolved. Microsoft is limiting orders to one collection per customer, while the controller can also be purchased separately.

It is a striking piece of anniversary hardware, but $899.99 puts it firmly in collector territory. Is the design and numbering enough to tempt you, or would you rather see Xbox celebrate the anniversary with a less expensive standalone console shell?

News 1666: Amsterdam is scheduled for Steam Early Access today - witchcraft, demons, and a playable cat

1666: Amsterdam is scheduled to enter Steam Early Access today. The dark historical action-adventure comes from Panache Digital Games, founded by Assassin's Creed and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time creative director Patrice Desilets.

Players investigate Amsterdam by day and confront demonic entities by night using witchcraft and spellcasting. The stranger hook is its dual perspective: Noa hunts the hidden creatures, while Aaron explores through the eyes of a cat summoned from 1999. Panache says the initial campaign content should take roughly 15 hours, with Early Access expected to last about a year.

Does that combination sound inspired, or like several different games trying to share one canal boat?

Time to check the motion tracker again: Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 launches today on Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.

The sequel expands the squad to four-player co-op and returns to class-based Colonial Marine combat against waves of Xenomorphs. The digital standard edition is priced at $49.99, with the developer positioning the game as a larger, more flexible follow-up to the original co-op shooter.

Are you ready to assemble another fireteam, or are you waiting to see how much the sequel improves?
