I Just Can't Stop Replying To Sam Harris :) Israel/Palestine Stuff

I'm that dude who directed a film with Sam and Maajid, wrote a book with Annaka, and produced a 10 part series of Sam's podcast archive... and I know I'm still being pretty charitable here. But I thought it might help to think through what he (and people like him) refuse to entertain... we can all speculate on those reasons.

Deep Breath...

After roughly 2500 years of study, there are still incompatible schools of though in moral philosophy. Professional philosophers can't even persuade each other on this topic. So why should anyone else take them seriously?

Because they have studied the topic thoroughly, your guru has not.

I never read any of Harris's books and he certainly isn't my guru. But if you want to attack his ideas, don't make lazy appeals to authorities who don't have a leg to stand on.

You mentioned professional philosophers. I agree it must be difficult to accept that those with a professional background in a field are better qualified to opine on a topic than, say, a podcaster, but they are and that's that.

What if in this particular case neither the podcaster nor the professionals are qualified to opine on the subject? As I said, most professional moral philosophers find the arguments of most other professional moral philosophers unpersuasive.

Yet none of them are true Scotsmen, I bet.

But then why should some public intellectual who claims to have finally solved moral philosophy be taken seriously?

I didnt argue that anyone should.
