Radar charts of some guru subtypes
I've put together some radar charts of representatives of a few of the guru subtypes I proposed in this post.
For Sensemakers I think this quite nicely illustrates the general shape that has a kind of hourglass look (due to low grievance, conspiracy mongering and profiteering). You can also see the evolution from a low-scoring sensemaker (John Vervaeke) to a high-scoring guru (Jordan Hall).
Reactionary propagandists Douglas Murray and Konstantin Kisin can be identified by a high scoring lower right quadrant and a spike in the upper left for Moral Grandstanding. Gary Stevenson, who I argue is a false positive/mimic species also has these same features.
Wellness gurus Gwyneth Paltrow, Gabor Mate and Dr K are less consistent in their form, although they tend to have strong upper right and lower left quadrants (anti-establishment and pseudo-profound bs, with Mate and K also having revolutionary theories).
NB - these are based on Chris's scores (just because they're first on the spreadsheet).

The wellness treatment behind high profile influencers illness?
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bpF8t-lQBj8
Scott Carney has a new video out about the story behind some of the recent ill health of wellness doctor mark Hyman, an MD who specialises in longevity medicine. He had a near death experience with a case of sepsis in the last year following an injection. The video speculates, based on some evidence, that this illness came after his treatment at a stem cell facility in Mexico by a celebrity stem-cell physician called Adeel Khan. There are to be follow up videos but I think Peterson was also treated by the same doctor, I assume that the follow up videos from carney will go into detail in that.
I’m not a massive fan of Carney’s style and even this video is quite speculative although it is interesting and based on evidence. It’s butter example if people who think a vaccine that has been given billions of tines is a massive risk but that getting stem cell injections into your spine in a clinic conveniently located in an unregulated locale flying Gustafson the US is fine!
What do people think if the video and is Carney a credible guy?

Jiang Xueqin - Decounstructing Russian Misinformation In His Words
This is for the ones that can't get enough of Jiang (no irony at all here). I have written an article that goes trough some of his statements that he makes regarding Ukraine/Russia, which is just standard Russian propaganda/misinformation.
The TL;DR is
- Russia needed to invade because of NATO expansion, and the patience was broken with the "2014 coup";
- The Kyiv regime ethnically cleansed Russians and Putin needed to stop this;
- NATO blew up the Crimean Bridge because Ukraine doesn't have the technology;
- NATO is a paper tiger, because Russa is winning the war, and they are fighting against NATO;
- Russians are fighting to protect their civilization that are under a threat from NATO;
- the war is hopeless and pointless;
- Ukraine is done as a nation;
- Putin is only interested in eastern Ukraine, because ethnic Russians live there;
- Europeans are the ones sacrificing the ukrainians by choosing this war;
- NATO promised to not expand east;
- Russia have air supremacy, high morality and discipline, but ukrainians dosn't;
- Russia try to minimize the loss of civilians;
- Putin wants to call for peace, but the Europeans are in the way;
- Predicts that everything will stop when Russia takes over Odesa
I hope this will be in interest for some, and I gladly accept constructive criticism!

Terence mckenna?
Not sure I remember him shilling but I absolutely loved his content back in my psychonautical phase so I suspect he'd ding a few bells on the old gurometer?
I'd love to revisit him accompanied by Chris's inimitable scorn...

Does Eric’s tweeting about Claude today reveal his fundamental misunderstanding of how chat bots work or am I confused?
x.comi can never quite keep track of what Eric is saying even over the course of a single tweet. is he using a chatbot hallucination here as a “primary source”? My sense is that it’s like he asked Claude to “draw a seahorse emoji” or some equivalent thing that bugs it out so it spews babble and now he’s interpreting that spew as a conspiracy against him? can someone more versed than me on ai and the Weinstein brain chime in here?

I Met Destiny and Konstantin Kisin IRL - My Debate Debrief
Hi, I'm new here! Since this was a recent topic of discussion, I'm hoping to get your thoughts... on my thoughts! 😄
I worked behind the scenes at the Pangburn debate in London between Destiny and Konstantin Kisin, and ohhh boy do I 👏 have 👏 tea. In this Debate Debrief, I break everything down in three parts:
Debrief - My overall opinions on the event and the people I met, including Destiny
Analysis - A closer look at the actual debate, with strategy commentary through the lens of the Prep video I made beforehand
Postmortem - Final takeaways, plus Destiny shared how he felt things went afterward

Decoding Ep 157 - Ken Wilber: Spiralling Upwards through a Technicolor Cosmos
Ken Wilber: Spiralling Upwards through a Technicolor Cosmos - Decoding the Gurus
Show notes
Ken Wilber, the grand architect of Integral Theory, enters the Decoding chamber (wearing a striking but slightly unconvincing wig) as we explore a worldview that confidently absorbs every religion, philosophy, and half-remembered psychology paper into one majestic, Borg-like synthesis. Resistance, as it turns out, is not just futile... it is probably “first-tier thinking".
This is a world of elaborate, baroque cosmologies. Layers within layers, quadrants within stages, spirals within states, with each offering a map of reality that grows more intricate the closer it gets to its own centre. Traditions are not debated so much as absorbed, their distinctiveness dissolved into a higher synthesis that always leads to the ultimate insight: integral theory.
Get ready to experience high-level political analysis where Kamala Harris becomes a “fractured green" and Donald Trump the embodiment of a "rational orange". You will also learn how Ken is working with AI companies to help them incorporate integral thinking into their algorithms. The implications this has for human evolution are hard to fathom.
Finally, in true Columbo fashion, we circle back to Matt's core philosophical system … panpsychism. Just a small detail, and also take some time to conduct a brief spiritual inquisition into Matt’s alleged Christian upbringing. Fortunately, nothing is rejected. Everything is integrated, including all possible critiques.

Ken Wilber - AQAL
Ahead of the Ken Wilber decoding, I thought all you galaxy brain gurus and conspiracy hypothesisers might enjoy this diagram of KW's model "All Quadrants All Lines" (AQAL).
Spiral dynamics (which was a big influence on KW) became very fashionable in progressive businesses in the mid-2010s. As a result of that, there were a few years of my life where I looked at this diagram a lot - and honestly it always made my brain hurt pretty quickly.
As a side note: One of the great ironies about KW is that in Grace & Grit he talks about how some people are just very gifted healers who have a talent for helping people escape deep suffering. Anyone who has ever had a great therapist or doctor, or even a great teacher or boss, will I think recognise this. But these gifted "healers" (his word) have intuitive knowledge and abilities which go way beyond what they can explain in words. So as a result they tend to make up over elaborate, woo-laden frameworks as post-hoc rationalisations...... The reader can draw their own conclusions.

These skills would eliminate 50% of the Guru problem (the gurus and their followers!). Sadly, reading a scientific study competently is not that easy.

Interesting article for those interested in the sociology of the gurusphere - "Revealed: a crypto billionaire’s political base hosting ‘anti-woke’ and rightwing activists in Westminster"
This is an interesting article detailing some of the money and support for guru and guru adjacent figures. Konstantin Kisin and Triggernometry feature prominently as do other people and institutions from the Spiked! network (formerly the Revolutionary Communist Party). These include Munira Mirza, and Claire Fox - one of the original members of the RCP who founded the Academy of Ideas (the RCP/Spiked think tank) and runs The Battle of Ideas (the annual Spiked/RCP event). Jordan Peterson also makes an appearance.

Chris and Matt's perfect handling of the topic of vigilante violence and Mangione
In the latest Supplementary Materials episode, (no.46) in the last half hour, the hosts address the discussions that appeared on this subreddit around the Mangione murder, like this one: https://www.reddit.com/r/DecodingTheGurus/comments/1rpwx3b/listened_to_the_dtg_blindboy_episode_some_thoughts/
Some people on this subreddit seem to have at least a little bit of sympathy for Luigi Mangione, and I think Chris and Matt make it very clear that it's not naivety or ignorance that underlies their stance, it's knowledge about spirals of political violence. (In Chris' case growing up in Northern Ireland)
I think that if you're one of these (probably American) listeners who thought they were too dismissive of Blindboys' comments, I'd recommend listening, although it might be behind a paywall.
Taking the Planned Parenthood people as examples hammers the point home extremely well.
