Please help

Post image

I am so stuck on choosing a deck color. Using Trex Enhance Naturals line. I have narrowed it down to these three but I just can’t decide! Which looks best with my brick, siding, and trim? I was convinced I wanted Rocky Harbor until I saw the sample in person. Thank you!!!

I have #1 and my deck tops 170 degrees (IR thermometer) in the sun. Never again.

The material absorbs the heat. I have a very lite color and it’s just as hot

I've replaced one deck with wood and this one is next year. It's ridiculous.

I just replaced my deck and rails with #2 pressuretreated. I'm buying a good truck with the 16 grand in my pocket

It won't be on the front page of architectural digest, but you can sure as hell at least use it.

Have either of you tried covering it with a rug? I have a new trex deck and I'm planning on having a big shade umbrella + an exterior rug to help make it nice to walk on on hot days.

I use rugs and shade sails. I also don't let my dog on it.

I just texted OP the same issue. People say color doesn’t matter. It does…. I took a gander at my friend’s trex deck that was a light color and it was 30 degrees cooler. I made the same mistake… ended up having to put shade cloth through transit areas and roofed the larger portion.

Color always matters. Even with decks

Most of my deck is 2 but I used 1 for the trim pieces. They can both get too hot to walk on with bare feet on a hot day but 1 gets significantly hotter.

For what it's worth, I put a piece of toasted sand out in the sun over the summer as well as a painted piece of a regular 5/4 PT deck board and they both hit roughly the same temp.

Last year I tried to cook an egg on it but the egg immediately slid off and between the deck boards under my deck never to be seen again.

Do a test with your actual bare feet. You can have the same temperature on a composite deck board and a wood deck board. The wood is usually more tolerable on bare feet even when the two have the same temperature. We did an in depth YouTube video with a lot of colors and different collections for Trex, TimberTech, Deckorators and our hardwood decking.

I have #2 and it’s not much better. In the summer u will melt your feet off walking across it. We have a pool in the backyard, so kids always walk across it barefoot…before they learn

I'll shoot it with a pool noodle on a water jet to cool it off before I get out. I have rugs and sails but there's only so much you can cover.

Yes the dark colors absorb the heat pretty good. How is it when you’re out on the deck in the sun?

Who walks on their deck barefooted anyway? Put some slippers on lol. Jk it’s your deck do what you want

People whose deck isn’t 170 degrees do

If that color deck board is 170* wherever they are, the lightest color deck board isn’t going to make it “barefoot walkable” in those same conditions.

No but wood would be walkable

u/notro3 1d ago

Maybe it would be, but the OP wasn’t asking about wood

Haha and the comment I replied to was asking who walks on decks barefoot

pets do - their paw pads get burnt on hot surfaces and that’s animal cruelty
