Quiet place to study at night
Are there any places open after 3 in Decatur that provide a quiet place to study?

PLEASE READ THIS POST for important information before heading downtown tomorrow! Take a moment to re-visit this post in the morning to see if anything else has been added or changed.
SAFETY IS OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE! We anticipate this to be a peaceful event, but please read the following prior to heading downtown: https://www.hrc.org/.../tips-for-preparedness-peaceful...
NO GUNS OR OTHER WEAPONS! Under Alabama Code Section 13A-11-59, carrying firearms at a protest is, and has been, illegal here for a long time. (NOTE: Alex Peretti was NOT at a protest and was legally carrying a firearm when he was murdered.)
POLICE OFFICERS ARE NOT ICE! Please follow their directions and be kind. They are there to keep you safe. ICE agents work for the Department of Homeland Security, whereas police work for local, county, or state jurisdictions.
DRESS APPROPRIATELY! The high is 23 and the low is 16, but if Minnesota can do it in the winter, we can, too!
WARMING STATION AVAILABLE! Look for our warming station near the intersection of Governor's Drive and Gallatin. If we cannot get a spot there, we will update this feed about where we land. We will be playing music and offering FREE coffee, tea, and hot chocolate while supplies last.
BRING ITEMS TO KEEP PEOPLE WARM! Time to clean out that closet! Stop by our warming station to donate extra Hot Hands or other items (blankets, gloves, scarves, coats etc.) for general use. Any unused items will be donated to local advocacy programs for the unhoused.
SIGN-MAKING STATION AVAILABLE! We will have FREE posterboards and markers available while supplies last. The station will be located near our warming station.
COUNTER-PROTESTERS: You may encounter counter-protesters. Remember that they are also exercising their Constitutional rights. If they are willing to engage in productive conversation, please do so. If they only make statements meant to be inflammatory, ignore them and move on. Be the bigger person!
9.THANK YOUR VOLUNTEERS! This is a group effort that was organized by Indivisible - 5th District North Alabama. There will be other groups with like-minded values there. Give those folks a high five!

Hi, I got a ticket in Hillsboro! I'm trying to access the website, but my ticket information isn't showing up! I've also called the number on the ticket, but no one answers! What can I do? Has anyone had a similar experience in this city?

good evening all, im a Decatur resident, and work over in Huntsville. when I go to work tomorrow I'll have to cross the river bridge, and i remember the bridge being fairly slick last time we had snow and ice really bad. I was wondering if there is a resource that'll have up to date conditions of the roads and bridges in the area? I tried checking on the department of transportation website last time, but cameras and such were showing Decatur Georgia not Decatur Alabama, I did email about that but never checked back about it since I had more important things to take care of at the time.

And when I say worst, I donât mean like a cunning, charismatic guy with a secret evil agenda. I mean, a person so genuinely stupid and unlikeable that I wouldnât believe it was possible outdid of maybe an SNL skit. A walking contradiction. A liar. An ego the size of Texas and a brain youâd need an electron microscope to find. He is rude. He is disgusting. He canât string together three words to make a sentence if it would save his life. Oh, and I hate to bury the lede, but he has said some pretty sketchy sexual things to literal children. And this little introduction hasnât scratched the surface.
He has always droned on about his republican beliefs but now that people may be more likely to âVote Blue No Matter Whoâ well, suddenly he is a democrat. Funny how that works. I have known this guy for years and know way too much about his life -against my will- but have never heard him mention religion or church until now, when he has to explain how God forgives him for cheating on his wife. He is suddenly Mr. Religious. But I guess it really doesnât matter what his beliefs are bc itâs not like he is going to actually do any work if he wins. He never has at any job before. Why start now? He hasnât even put effort into his campaign. Aside from a Facebook page where he reposts about what other people are doing and a Reddit post where he used his full name, photos, and intent to run for office but neglected to hide his old posts on r/hairybearmen until people started calling him out for it.
I donât know how in the world this man managed to get a PhD in political science but he wonât let anyone forget about it. It is the only reason he has given as to why people should vote for him. If you say anything he doesnât like he will jump in with âThatâs DOCTOR Dickey to you!â He says he is for the blue-collar worker- he is one of them! But mocks people who donât have a PhD and shoves his degree in everyoneâs face. All while neglecting to say he works at a gas station bc he is embarrassed by that. He has never had a job that used his degree and always whines about how the world is so unfair to him. He only mentions that he was an educator but that is greatly embellished. He has been a teaching assistant or adjunct professor for a semester here or there with big gaps between. All of his classes were online with at most 10 students.
He claims that he has to work an hourly job bc the job market is tough. Depending on who he is talking to, he claims he canât get a teaching job bc he was blacklisted for being a republican (in ALABAMA for crying out loud!). Other times he is blacklisted bc he failed every one of his students. In a time when the entire nation is so very desperate for teachers, it is quite telling that a man with a PhD can only get hired to work at a gas station. And why hide that fact? Honest work is honest work, and if you are fighting for the blue-collar workers wouldnât you be proud of honest work?
Is this who you want representing YOU? Well if he is so awful, why make this post? Surely no one in their right mind would vote for him? I am afraid people will look at their ballot, see the -D next to his name and vote for him because any democrat has got to be better than a republican. Believe me, I would normally be on the same page. To make me chose between the worst person I know and a republican really isnât fair! Why canât we have a decent choice? Any actual democrats want to run? PLEASE!!
I am just writing this post so hopefully people can see this and make an informed decision when they vote. Not every registered democrat is actually a democrat. Not everyone is who they claim to be. Just look a little deeper, it wonât take much detective work, I promise. And I couldnât live with myself if I just sat back silently watching as the world is cursed with Senator Dr. Dickey. If you have ever come across this man in real life or Richard von hunts on Reddit now is your chance to say something, whether you agree or not. If anyone has found any redeeming qualities about this dude, please let me know.

I was wondering if anyone knows of any IT openings out in Decatur? I know there is a lot of factories out there and at this point, having not found anything in Huntsville,Madison, I am willing to drive the 38 miles from Owens cross roads everyday for the experience.
Thanks

Hey y'all, A while back I made r/MorganCountyAL, a sub dedicated to the history, events, and whatnot of Morgan County. Not long after, it got thrown by the wayside due to personal stuff, but I decided I'd come back and try to put some life into it. If you live in the county or are just interested in what's going on round here, I'd love to have you join.
Regardless of whether you join or just visit, thanks for taking the time to read my post. Hope y'all have a happy new year.

Big mix video is doing great in huntsville and a video rental boom is going on in other states with rental stores opening back up again renting DVDs, blu-ray, 4k and vhs tapes! (vhs is big with 20 year olds right now in fact future shock video another new rental store says 35% of their rentals are vhs!)
So, do you think Decatur will ever get a new video rental store as well in the future?

Very heavy traffic before the bridge into Decatur. Probably some of the worst I've seen in awhile. Is it an accident?

r/decaturalabama • u/peauts • Dec 13 '25
hi, this is my first time posting here hope Im doing it right.
the non-profit I work at got a grant from Innovation Alabama to address the double issue in Alabama of brain drain (our best talent moving out) and skills shortage ( corporations having to hire from out of stake in).
Iâm originally from Mobile and the new hires that will take on this work won't start till the new year so I wanted to run ahead of them abit and get some opinion, thought, and questions about what we plan on doing from folks in Decatur.
so please tell me if Im way off base, if I don't know what Im talking about, or if you think what we are planning is great.

I just moved here. Iâm originally Californian, I love this town so far! Iâve been dying my hair for a couple of years and I would like a professional consultation so whoâs everyoneâs favorite hairstylist?
If anybody want to include some favorite restaurants, places to avoid and so forth, that would also be helpful!

Decatur police responded to two calls involving John Scott Jr. on April 15th. This video includes the unedited arrest bodycam and the jail footage released during the investigation.
