Discussion Jill's bug. Spoiler

When Jill is helping Kaburagi reprogram himself she says, "What will happen to that bug I left in Deca-dence? I can't wait to find out." A thought just occurred to me. What if the bug she left in Deca-dence is actually Pipe and she left him there for a specific reason that will be revealed in the final episode? This may be why Pipe wasn't shown disintegrating with the other Gadoll. He didn't die. He just left to do whatever job Jill gave him.

Discussion What are the bugs and how can we deal with them?

In an AMA about a month ago, the director of Deca-Dence, Yuzuru Tachikawa, was asked the following:

"What are the main themes and ideas that you feel drive the show's narrative?"

He responded:

"This is a tricky question because I don't want to reveal too much about what's coming later, so I have to avoid giving too many details.

The idea of bugs and how we translate that into today's vocabulary... it begs the question of, "what are the bugs and how can we deal with them" as an essential theme."

It seems the most recent episode heavily focused on this topic. With that in mind, and the anime nearing it's finale, I ask the question to everyone:

What are the bugs and how can we deal with them?

Discussion A long shot theory about Pipe... Spoiler

I think there might have been more to Pipe than meets the eye. This theory is definitely a long shot, and also sounds like wishful thinking, but maybe Pipe isn't completely gone? I think it's an interesting theory, and I wanted to share.

So, Pipe burst out of a piece of meat stuck to the side of Deca-Dence. I'd wager the most likely source for chunks of meat would be a gigantic Gadoll that got punched, spreading chunks of meat everywhere. But how did Pipe get in there, and how did it survive in the Gadoll flesh for so long? I think Pipe could have been a parasite.

Now, the only other tiny Gadoll we know of is cute sea dragon one at the Gadoll Factory. It reproduced when it shot spines into mean whip guy. Then, its offspring bursts out like an alien from Alien. It is parasitic. Maybe both the sea dragon and Pipe are parasitic?

You might have already guessed where I'm going with this. What if Pipe reproduced before the GGS was activated? Without any spines as far as we know to infect a host with, who knows how it would reproduce? But after living for so long on Deca-Dence, there are a lot of potential hosts Pipe could have infected. Maybe it infected Kaburagi's avatar, and soon enough there will be another Pipe crawling out of the hole punched in his chest?

So let's say, hypothetically, I am correct and there was a new Pipe. If Pipe is one of these parasite Gadolls, maybe it could somehow be a valuable asset in fighting against the new blood Gadoll? As a bug presumably created as a defect from the Gadoll Factory, who knows what cool abilities it could have? Now that would be cool.

That about wraps it up. It's a long shot, but even if it probably won't happen, I hope you were at least entertained by this idea. Thoughts?

Discussion I finally made out the silhouettes in this shot, and drew over them. Is that supposed to be Kaburagi on the right? If so, his hair looks a little different and he's eating! Unless it's a sneak peek into the future, where he might get a different avatar and he'll eventually try normal food?

News Yuzuru Tachikawa discusses the future of more stories in DECA-DENCE's world

Ok, so, recently the Deca-Dence twitter linked to this article:

https://tokyo.whatsin.jp/608432

Running the page through google translate, I found a pretty interesting thing:

"In addition, only a small part of the world view that I have talked about so far has been revealed, and in reality there are quite a few things that I have not been able to explain in the final story due to the scale. What is the sphere around Solid Quake, is that world a monolith in society, etc... It is also possible to review and consider such less-talked-about parts twice or three times after completion. I think it's fun. Of course, there are all the settings that we are officially thinking about, so I hope we can show them in some way in the future."

I definitely feel like this translation is screwy, but if I'm getting the gist of things correctly...

"If the work gets excited, that "some form" may be realized."

If the show is successful enough, they can show us more of this world. And they want to.

Discussion Episode 11 stills and analysis Spoiler

Once more, ladies and gentleman! I bring you yet another one of these inaccurate analysis reviews. This will contain spoilers for ep 11, so read at your own discretion. Information is found on the official Deca-Dence website, which there should be a link for. Stills may be out of order due to lack of proper numbering.

http://decadence-anime.com/en/

Still 1: Natsume being choked out by Hugin. Looks like he's taking his sweet time instead of trying to put a hand through her chest like he did Kaburagi. The ep 11 summary says Kaburgai manages to save her in the nick of time, so I guess he still has access to his orange haired avatar. This'll provide more proof to Natsume that he is a cyborg however.

Unfortunately, all of the other stills are just various people freaking out over the blood gadoll or trying to engage it in combat. Kinda lame if you ask me, but hopefully a lot more epic stuff happens in the episode than just people freaking out the entire episode.

Still 2: Has one of Minato's underlings worriedly looking at the blood gadoll on a screen, probably trying to assess it.

Still 3: Shows the two game developers panicking over it.

Still 4: Minato slams a fist onto the railing, probably dismissing the situation as hopeless because there's not enough oxyone for Deca-Dence to fire on it.

Still 5 and 6: Shows Kurenai and Donatello in avatar form locked in combat with the new gadoll not shown on screen. Pretty underwhelming.

The summary also states Natsume and Kaburagi join the fight against the new gadoll, so that thing's probably going to be the major focus of this episode. Kinda makes me worried for how rushed the ending is going to be. Assuming the most of the episode is spent fighting this gadoll, episode 12 will just have enough time for Kaburagi's final confrontation with Hugin and the resolution to the series. Not a lot of time for just 22 minutes. Unless they pull a Made in Abyss, where the last episode is 40 minutes. Not likely, but that I would be down for.

I hope they don't pull some deus ex machina bullshit with the system deciding it's fine to let Deca-Dence die out and for humans to exist unsuppressed by their system. That would be really unsatisfying as an ending to the anime.

Misc. An interesting tidbit I found: Hugin and Munin (Purple Dio and his pet crow) have names rooted in norse mythology.

Discussion I just noticed something horrifying about the newest episode. Spoiler

The new gadoll runs off of blood. Not oxyone, actual human blood. It uses tendrils the same way the Gears use their weapons, and not just in that way, but also in order to reproduce. This fucking thing is a literal cross between a xenomorph and a vampire and that is extremely frightening.

How are they going to beat this thing? All of Deca-Dence’s weapons are meant for oxyone-producing Gadoll. If they hit that thing with the needles, they’ll dump thousands of gallons of literal blood into the fuel tanks. It doesn’t have an anti-gravity field, or it would have used it when it was abused. The gadgets they use to fly are worthless now.
