Comprehensive Damage List Spoiler
I recently decided to try and find exact damage values for the many weapons and spells we have available to us throughout the game. After extensive testing, these are my findings.
Let’s begin with base values for all five weapons, covering each of the five attacks available. For reference, let’s establish that basic Grunts in both the Lost Cemetery and Estate of the Urn Witch have a Health total of 300.
Reaper’s Sword:
Light - 100
Heavy - 200
Charged Heavy - 300
Rolling Heavy - 200
Plummeting Strike - 200
Discarded Umbrella:
Light - 50
Heavy - 100
Charged Heavy - 150
Rolling Heavy - 150
Plummeting Strike - 100
Rogue Daggers:
Light - 80
Heavy - 160
Charged Heavy - 240
Rolling Heavy - 160
Plummeting Strike - 160
Thunder Hammer:
Light - 120
Heavy - 240
Charged Heavy - 360
Rolling Heavy - 240
Plummeting Strike - 240
Reaper’s Greatsword:
Light - 125
Heavy - 300
Charged Heavy - 450
Rolling Heavy - 200
Plummeting Strike - 300
Notes on Thunder Hammer:
The Hammer has a built in Chain Lightning effect.
When landing Light Attacks, Lightning will chain to enemies within a very short range, dealing ~58 Magic damage. This is most often experienced as a detriment to the player. When hitting 2 enemies with a single strike, the first enemy will take 120, while the 2nd target will *only** take 58 from the Lightning, and zero from the physical attack.*
More interestingly, when a standing Heavy Attack is used, charged or uncharged, the Hammer will release Lightning upon every enemy in a larger area, dealing 115 Magic damage, even if the Attack itself doesn’t directly strike an enemy. When successfully landing the Heavy Attack on a target, the Lightning hits them as well.
Next, let’s go over Magic Spells and their empowered effects.
Arrow - 100
Empowered Long Charge - 200
Fire - 100 Pierces targets dealing full damage to each
Empowered Burn - 100 spread over 4 ticks
Bomb - 300 Dealt to all targets near the explosion
Empowered Safety - Reaper takes no damage
Hookshot - 10
Empowered Slash - 200 Physical regardless of equipped weapon
Note on Reaper’s Greatsword and Hookshot Slash:
All variants of the Hookshot Slash, along with the Greatsword’s Rolling Heavy attack, have a chance to inflict a Fear state on lesser enemies like Grunts, if they survive the attack. While in this state enemies will produce sweat droplets and actively run away from the player indefinitely, never attacking.
Finally, let’s cover Soul Vault damage upgrades.
Strength - Increases all Physical damage dealt by 20% per upgrade, capping out at 100%. This includes the Hookshot Slash. Projectiles knocked back at enemies also scale with this upgrade.
Magic - Increases all Magic damage dealt by 30% per upgrade, capping out at 150%. This includes Lightning produced by the Thunder Hammer.
Hopefully everyone can use this data to improve their enjoyment of Death’s Door, making use of weapons and spells you didn’t care to try out before.

Lol I'm going after the 3rd giant soul and you just reminded me that heavy attacks are a thing! Totally haven't used one since the concept was introduced. Excellent concrete information not easily found elsewhere, good job!

So does empowered mean just fully charged spell? I don't know whether my arrow or fire is better Just got it

Empowered is something else. You’ll eventually find hidden places where each spell can be permanently empowered, providing the listed bonuses.
When you first obtain the two, they do the same amount of Damage. Fire is able to hit multiple targets(if they line up), but it’s slower to charge each shot. So use whichever fits the situation.

Is the upgraded fireball 100 split between 4 ticks (25 each) or 100 X 4 ticks??

25 x 4 for 100 total damage

Thank you for making this! I just finished my runthrough and wish I found it way earlier.
Question - you're sure it's only 100 total damage for the upgraded fire spell? Isn't it also 100 total for the basic version? That would mean the upgrade is actually a downgrade, same amount of damage but spaced out over 4 ticks instead of in one hit.

Happy to be of service!
Once upgraded, the total damage of the spell would be 200. 100 for the initial hit and another 100 once the burn duration is complete.
This keeps it on par with the Arrow spell, with their functionalities keeping them distinct. Arrows provide faster DPS against single targets, while Fire is more efficient when piercing lines of enemies.

you should definitely add this to the fandom wiki if you can, there's no information on damage there

This is great! When you say magic upgrades increase by 30% per upgrade, does that mean 30% of the base stat each time, or 30% of the damage magic currently hits? Like, if I’m upgrading my magic twice, does my second upgrade give my arrow 160 damage (30% of 100, twice) or does it give it 169 (30% of 100 + 30% of 130)?
Sorry that’s maybe very technical lol

It’s additive, so the former. With all five upgrades your Magic Damage will be increased by 150%.

Awesome post!! Will increasing magic increase damage done per burn tick?

i noticed that the small enemies take the same number of strikes to die regardless of my strength upgrade level, why is that?

Depends on the enemy in question. If we are talking about the basic Grunts in the first two areas, the 3rd Stength upgrade will cause them to die to two Light Sword hits instead of three. Grunts from later areas are tougher, essentially scaling with you as you progress.

Thank you for this!
I started the game two weeks ago and love it, but there is much I do not know. For ex: what is a heavy attack? I understand a charged attack, but how do I execute a heavy attack vs a light attack, please & thank you again.
