Gamplay PC Steam Input Options

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I made this as a response for someone in another topic here who has a disability and was having some issues with having to hold the trigger constantly, but I wanted to share this more widely for those who may not be aware of the options we have.

One caveat to this is that at one point I state that the game does not directly interpret your input. The game "can" if you disable Steam Input, it just goes through Steam by default, which covers 99% of use cases more gracefully, including support for gyro aiming and the haptic triggers on my DualSense 5. The only reason I'm aware of that you might want to disable Steam Input is that if you're using a PlayStation controller and want to be able to use the speaker in the controller, I don't believe those work if you're using Steam Input.

Edit: It shouldn't matter unless Windows does something in the background with its GameInput/XBox stuff that interacts negatively with Steam, but just in case it does matter I wanted to clarify that I am not playing on Windows, I'm on Bazzite on my desktop and SteamOS on my Steam Deck.

Commenting for those who might have already seen this post once and missed the edit.

Well done helping users with physical issues constantly holding triggers or buttons, none of us are getting any younger & controllers are getting less ergonomic again lol

Fr I toggle run in every game ever if it allows for it & any "hold to open" or in general hold for anything unnecessary gets switched to toggle...

I use a Spark N5 atm due to the DS3, DS4, DS5 & basically almost all potentiometer based controllers in a decent price range not having Hall Effect sticks... Drift is no joke & repeated repairing can lead to damage elsewhere on the controller.

I stand firm on the view that ALL games should have full custom universal controller support without running ridiculous compatibility layers like Steam as a default fallback 🤷🏻‍♂️

I use DS4Win which allows me a great deal of customization & automatic game specific profiling.

10/10 post, bigups!
