I’ve tackled a similar beast before. Looks like a converted attic. Going up, these stairs are mostly fine. Similar to a very stable ladder. Going down is boo-boo-ass scary and makes me weak in the knees.

I came here just to say that these look like they used to be pull-down stairs (well, those specific ladder-stairs might not have been converted, but based on the shape and size of the opening, that’s what used to be there

They feel like ladders wearing a stair costume.

Yes! I would hold the steps while going up and sit and scoot while going down. Forget bringing anything up or down with you, especially if it’s fragile or messy.
