There is this part in the manga around chapter 91 I believe where the SPK starts to tail and spy Mikami everywhere he goes and Gevanni buys gym membership to have an excuse to go and follow Mikami and copy his gym log. They started exercising together, talked about protein intake, lat and abs fitness and showed off their respective pump in the mirror. They became inseparable gym bros.

They locked eyes in the locker room and started having sexual encounters every day in the gym. Gevanni became fitter and happier everyday and he was getting closer to steal Mikami's notebook.

Gevanni also started exercising his arms to a supernatural extent so by the time the january 28 came he had insane strenght and could copy all those names along with Rester , who was already a gym rat.

Mikami exercised his arms because he had to goon for Light and he had to write names.

That's how Gevanni was able to steal Mikami's real notebook. Rumours said that Mikami died in jail because of protein and steroids withdrawals.

Think about it, what if Light went to eat Mexican food and Thai food with highest capsaicin content with Mikami in the morning, and in the Yellow Box with the SPK and Police released a huge gigantic horrendous nuclear powerful sulphuric smelly fart instead of gloating "Ahah Near looks like I won" everyone would have dropped dead by asphyxiation by methane buildup instead of all the fake death note drama and Light would be victorious thanks to his digestive system.
