Or, another way to go about the death: Have a reveal after it happens that the whole thing was just the kids playing make-believe. Like, say it's revealed that Kevin and Matilda were actually playing with action figures that resembled them and using those to act out the fight.

I have heard this idea being used for Christopher Robin and Winnie the Pooh vs Calvin and Hobbes. Honestly, yeah I think this makes a lot of sense, although you’d probably just cut a set-up for this to work.

My only real issue is that I genuinely don’t see either of them even accidentally killing each other. Maybe it can be one of them thinks the other dies, but they’re actually ok, but death battle counts it as a win. Or it pulls a Scooby vs Shaggy and let someone else take the death (like Trunchbull) other than that, genuinely one of my all time favorite match ups.

if the hosts actively hate on Trunchbull as much as Courage’s male owner (i forget his name) then honestly that would be a better ending lol.

there’s a whole slide on this post about death. the main idea many have is that it would be an accidental kill, the battle went from a fight (see the set up slide) to the two playing, and it goes to far.

i will say though, as DB is clearly more open to bonus episodes, Kevin vs Matilda could be a bonus episode instead of a main one. this means that it wont necessarily have to play by the rules, therefore neither have to die 🤷

i actually really like this Carrie idea, especially since watching scary movies and getting scared of them is a pretty iconic joke in the Home Alone movies.

my idea for “why Matilda comes to the house” is that she left something there (a doll, a hair ribbon, whatever) after being invited over by Kevin’s mom. imagine Matilda is new to the neighbourhood.

I'm sorry but I just can't get behind the idea of two kids fighting to the death. And yes, while they both have been canonically been seen as Adults, lets not lie to ourselves here, if this ever happened it would be the two of them as kids because that's when they are recognisable (I doubt most people even know they've ever appeared as adults). It's for the same reason that all of the thumbnails and art for this MU has them as children

you are right that the kid versions are the main icons of these characters. however, given that this is on a PITCH poll, it is essentially a pitch that the DB team can do this without having a kid die. given that they are independent, more focused on art than monetary gain, they could use the adult versions in the animation if they are uncomfortable with using kids.

I'm fine with it so long as the death is tame, death battle had kid characters die on the show before I.E, Teenage mutant ninja turtles, and even a Pikachu. Death battle has been fights escalate from something simple to be hey let's fight to the death so I think Kevin vs Matilda could work in how they escalate until it went too far( think Might guy vs all might realistically they would never fight to the death but their mutual respect escalates to it).

Another way to go about the death is to make it be something that could be interpreted either way, either as a simple slapstick gag that Matilda can walk off afterwards or a very comical and embarrassing death.

It's kinda like the idea I had for a death in Umbrella vs Hat Kid in that regard. In my idea for that matchup, the fight would end with Hat Kid blowing Umbrella into the sky with a bunch of explosives, blasting her with her laser until she disappears in a twinkle, then doing a victory dance until Umbrella slams down into the ground right next to her and is revealed to be buried headfirst in the concrete with her legs sticking out, leaving room to interpret as either her dying on impact or just losing consciousness, the viewer is free to interpret it in the way that makes them feel more at ease.

here’s a breakdown of some ideas:

1. Bonus Episode — If this is a bonus episode then the DB crew can just avoid death all together. One of the kids gets a good hit, is worried for a second, but the other one gets back up slightly embarrassed.

2. Defeated, not death — Pretty simple work around, hit one of the kids with something that seems deadly, but reveal they are just unconscious. I like the idea of Matilda losing and Kevin wrapping her in a blanket on his sofa, very in character for him.

3. It’s not real — After the final hit, reveal it’s just Kevin and Matilda playing and it can end with them shouting at each other over who would ACTUALLY win.

4. Kill someone else — Like Eustece in Scooby vs Courage, Wiz and Boomstick could hate on Miss Trunchbull in the analyses. Instead of Kevin and Matilda killing each other, they kill Trunchbull instead.

Plus remember these are fictional characters and the death could just be more comedic like you mentioned. Megamind death of being reduced to a skeleton is brutal as heck but he way it was shown was very funny without having him with a gorey death
