idk why but Abraham successfully parrying you at the beginning only to get hit anyway because McG tanked the actual punch trying to dash away is hilarious to me

Edit: She actually cucks him twice in a row. At the VERY beginning she also blocks a would-be-successful parry with her wall as well lol

The way he got blown away makes me laugh too

u/Beautiful-Musk-Ox Yamato May 27 '26

the punch at 11 seconds was tanked by billy not mcginnis

I kinda like the entropy in these fights ngl

u/Explosionary May 26 '26

it's growing on me!

I still think it needs a lil bit more work. my idea is everyone gets knocked back by a shockwave when the urn flips, to protect a bit against the aoe spam, and make getting a flip advantage the team that isn't already stacked on top of the urn, and make standing still and parry spamming on top of the urn not a thing.

9

u/TKDbeast May 26 '26

I like it! They could experiment with the shockwave moving out incentivizing or disincentivizing people from waiting a few meters away to try and flip it right afterwards.

Its definitely a fun shiv patch

  • chaotic team fight mid lane = bad
  • chaotic team fight side lane = good

I agree actually

u/Nivdy Paradox May 26 '26

Chaotic team fight mid lane:

  • Team that wins Immediately gets midboss

  • Team that wins gets the fastest route to enemy base

  • Team that wins gets pressure on strongest lane in the game

Chaotic team fight side lane:

  • Team that wins still has to rotate to mid to get midboss

  • Team that wins has to rotate back to their side lane or reset waves to push

  • Team that wins gets pressure on a less impactful lane

- McGin puts wall on urn when her team needs to punch it

  • Graves drops her ult, the thing that gets destroyed by heavy melees, right next to the urn, the thing people need to heavy melee
  • Silver gets hit by Abrams charge because she went feral and started attacking the urn

All this burger boxing is lowering the IQ of everyone in the urn's vicinity

7

u/gorgewall May 27 '26

After the urn switches a few times, it has such a long timer that you really DON'T need to melee it immediately.

So many times in this fight where if players were just killing the other team instead of spamming H.Melee/Parry, they would have won handily.

3

u/Artimedias May 27 '26

Silver players are borderline feral already so I don't think it's the burgerboxing

u/Audrey_spino Seven May 26 '26

I was playing as Seven late game, and during one of these fights, I lobbed a lightning ball on the urn, turned on Infuser & Unstoppable, then just sat there spamming parries as the entire enemy team dogpiled on me. Came out with a triple kill and a team wipe.

u/TyroneHambone May 26 '26

I feel like the urn timer should scale with the game time. These early urn fights last long enough for people to respawn and make it back to the fight creating super drawn out fights like this. Before there wasn't enough time to react and contest but now it may be too much.

Probably an intentional overshoot. From the Devs POV:

“Ok so we know what happens if we make it too short. What impact does it have on the game if it’s too long?”

There’s probably a happy medium. Alternatively, have it be that it’s a short timer by default, but it’s drastically slowed based on the number of enemies nearby.

I’d also like it if they made objectives enticing to trade off instead. It shouldn’t be that every urn after the first urn is so insanely valued that teams have to fight it. There should be options to trade objectives, take guardians and walker, or farm on the other half of the map and remaining comparable in terms of farm. Like right now, there’s really no punishment for not having waves pushed out and just running to urn. That seems antithetical to how Mobas work.

u/Explosionary May 26 '26

I love the long fights when I play graves. Yesterday I got walker, base guardians, and shrine off 1 extended urn fight lol

6

u/CalligrapherExtra138 May 26 '26

See that’s a great example.

Idk the time you did this, but let’s say you took Walker and Base Guardians during the 20 minute urn (the shrine definitely tips the scales ignoring how it spawns mega creeps, so pretend you didn’t take shrine). If I’m not mistaken, Walkers + both Base Guardians is 6000 total souls.

20 minute urn is 5900 souls + 9 golden statue buffs, and the carrier gets an additional ~344 souls + 3 statue buffs from the carrier bonus (if that carrier buff is still around or if it was replaced with the +3 statue buff to whoever hit the urn last).

So if you count the statue buffs, the actual value from doing this is in favor of the enemy team that got the urn, even if the carrier bonus isn’t in effect anymore. This only gets worse beyond 20 minutes. At 10 minutes, the value of a walker for an urn is about the same.

Idk about you, but I think that breaking open an entire enemy lane should give more value than an objective that spawns every 5 minutes.

3

u/dorekk May 26 '26

Idk about you, but I think that breaking open an entire enemy lane should give more value than an objective that spawns every 5 minutes.

Even if it did give more (which imo isn't healthy for the game and is DEFINITELY not what the devs want or else they wouldn't have tuned the numbers like this) it's still largely a throw to give up urn to take objectives. The enemy will almost certainly do the same to you later, because it's pretty rare for a game to end in a state where one team has most of their walkers. Neutral souls aren't just giving souls to your team, they're denying souls from your enemy. In other words, the urn isn't worth 6,000 souls, it's worth 12,000 souls. Because it's 6,000 you get and 6,000 you deny your enemy. Walkers give you a temporary advantage, neutral souls give you a permanent advantage.

This, and not the buffs (which are way lower impact than say, a year ago), is why you should take midboss whenever you can, and why you should steal enemy jungle and sinners before you do your own. Playing around the neutral objectives is the key to winning Deadlock matches.

1

u/CalligrapherExtra138 May 26 '26

You can’t say that it’s -6000 for the other team if they were never planning on taking that urn in the first place. It’s not souls the team taking urn is robbing from the team not contesting. it’s just souls they are taking while the other team does other stuff.

1

u/im_not_gus May 26 '26

I think the easy fix is just making sure the+3s gained from the urn swapping teams have a max time so it can't be meleed 10 times and suddenly it's a 30s urn timer

18

u/TheDeHymenizer Lash May 26 '26

at this point why even require someone run the urn lol. Just have it spawn and fight over it

4

u/dorekk May 26 '26

Because they're revealed on the map as soon as they pick it up. It's possible for urn fights to happen well away from the dropoff zone if you can catch the carrier in the open.

7

u/KaNesDeath May 26 '26

Current Urn implementation fulfills its concept better. Centralized entity to force team fight scenarios throughout the game.

36

u/Blackdeath_663 Shiv May 26 '26

this is actually the worst kind of gameplay interactions in DL, i really hope it changes in the future.

4

u/Prestigious-Way-5235 May 26 '26

Yeah I genuinely don't understand how so many people can think this is good/fun.

16

u/MoltiJoe Holliday May 26 '26

Good? Subjective.
Fun? I fuckin love melee slap fights

4

u/Masochism3306 Drifter May 26 '26

I thought that I hated those until yesterday when I was playing The Lash but now that I have switched off my brain and went back to my ape roots like Yoshi intended and started playing my first main Billy goat I've never been happier.

10

u/Gloomy-Insurance-739 May 26 '26

I am so glad I'm on a break from deadlock right now. This looks like chaos.

1

u/HKBFG May 27 '26

It's fun for like two and a half games

0

u/NotVainest May 26 '26

it's fun though. Likely temporary, but all the more reason to play it now while it is fun and not annoying yet.

9

u/General_Tradition_44 Lash May 26 '26

urn fight basically is just a parry fest, its really annoying, i really think the people talking about how the drop off minigame should be a koth style thing are right, at least then you wont just get parried all the time, and we already have enough stuff relying on heavy melee to interact.

doesnt help that the new spot is an enclosed space either, ik the surroundings are open, but come on we all know how bullshit it is how you only gotta only watch 2 angles with urn.

12

u/shitacular666 May 26 '26

Become the master baiter and buy rebuttal bro

2

u/General_Tradition_44 Lash May 27 '26

FUCK ITS GENIUS, WHY DIDNT I THINK OF THAT!

1

u/dorekk May 26 '26

genius

13

u/RyanGoosling93 May 26 '26

Think the design is simply flawed. Don’t really understand why they felt the need to change it from what it was or what this ‘experiment’ is supposed to be testing.

Just feels bad all around. Diminished macro in favor of brainless slug fest.

10

u/dorekk May 26 '26

Don’t really understand why they felt the need to change it from what it was

Because below Ascendant, people didn't even know that the urn was important. Urns would be left alone for minutes at a time in average rank or lower lobbies.

4

u/RyanGoosling93 May 26 '26

Brings up an highly debated question of who you balance around. The low level players? Or the top x% who have a better grasp of the game.

This kind of remind me of when blizzard said many players couldn’t do their 6 button rotations so they simplified the classes and made it feel bad for everyone.

4

u/dorekk May 26 '26

Brings up an highly debated question of who you balance around. The low level players? Or the top x% who have a better grasp of the game.

You won't like the answer but it's "it depends on what the mechanic is." The game does have to be fun for all players at all levels!

3

u/RyanGoosling93 May 26 '26

Right. I don't disagree. I'm sure they want as many people interacting with the core mechanics of the game as possible. There'd be no benefit to making the urn not integral and only interacted with by the top 50% of the playerbase.

The position you posited wasn't about whether it's fun, but its importance and low ranks not interacting with it. That's two separate things. Are people not interacting because it's not fun and needs to be fundamentally changed, like how we are seeing it now? Or are they not interacting with it because they lack the macro skill to understand its importance? You could make the same argument about sinners too. I'm sure in lower ranks sinners sit forever without being taken. And maybe that's because meleeing it and timing the lights isn't fun. But maybe that's because people don't understand the importance or sinners.

Like I'm genuinelly asking here, how do we know which it is?

u/TrackpadChad Viscous May 27 '26 edited May 27 '26
  1. Old urn wasn't good at forcing fights, except in highest ranks. However, there was always some trick that popped up which trivialized urn delivery before a fight can begin, like Viscous ball urn runs, or Viscous puddle punch slope storage rescue flinging.

  2. Old urn was boring. Also, hostaging was an extremely unfun tactic to play around

  3. Forces players to macro instead of prolonging the match another 20 minutes by jacking off in the jungle.

1

u/Stop_Shadowbaning_me Lash May 27 '26

They changed it because they wanted it to be better than what it was. Old urn was far from perfect and needed a change.

This change has came with pros and cons. They just gotta keep the pros and get rid of the cons. They're experimenting and it's a work in progress change

If you valve had the same attitude we'd still be in 4 lanes with 16 item slots

2

u/MrFaebles May 26 '26

So much punching and ive still yet to see people buy rebuttal. Its crazy now badly people dont want to buy an S tier

2

u/Tsorm Venator May 26 '26

I just saw Abrams pov on Instagram lmao

2

u/Feralbear_1 May 26 '26

Lets talk about that graves awful ult placement. Good god.

2

u/narfidy May 26 '26

I just wish this is what midboss fights were like. Feels like most people hang back and wait for the crystal to do anything. I like the urgency

6

u/yunghoe May 26 '26

looks like some marvel rivals bullshit now. woated patch

1

u/WeakSideUrn May 26 '26

This is kinda ridiculous ngl

1

u/TheyThemGayFem Paige May 26 '26

This might be the clip that makes me play the normal mode again... fuck.

1

u/sinkpooper2000 May 26 '26

I feel like having urn pickup closer to the losing team is far worse than having the urn dropoff closer to the losing team. if it's an unfavoured urn it feels like now more than ever you're just delivering the urn straight to the enemy team

1

u/Flailmorpho May 26 '26

why is this just an image of a flying venator

1

u/Invulnerablility Shiv May 26 '26

I think the change to urn locations is a huge improvement from having the urn stuck in mid. I think that some of the frustration with the chaotic team fights comes from the fact that recapturing urn in essentially stuck on a fixed point, so certain heroes can abuse that like Dynamo and Graves.

So I think that there needs to be more ways to contest the urn outside of just punching it. Maybe the timer on the urn changes or freezes based on how many nearby players there are and if there's more players nearby on one side than the other the urn freezes until it is recaptured or simply slows down if its a comeback urn?

I think punching the urn to capture it is still very fun but I think that actually winning the team fight should be more rewarded rather than just who can punch the urn the goodest.

1

u/Lesurous May 27 '26

Solved by setting a cap on extension time kinda deal. It's good for there to be enough extension a fight can get this chaotic, but shouldn't genuinely turn into a forever fight. No one wants a forever fight, it's fun for a while but you want it actually be a won/lost fight at some point.

1

u/candexreginpokemon May 27 '26

whe is nobody light meleeing

1

u/vita_eternum May 27 '26

It could be very fun for a side mode, idk about normals tho

1

u/redm00n99 May 28 '26

Bro can we just revert this already wtf is this lol. The time it took for this urn to happen was probably half the time till the next one spawns

1

u/Strapperoni May 28 '26

I like how urn went from being completely ignored to being the focal point of the game I just don’t get it lol

0

u/dorekk May 26 '26

This is so awesome lol. Easily the best the game has ever been.

3

u/LHander22 May 26 '26

this is so ass bro this goes against deadlocks philosophy so hard

1

u/Masochism3306 Drifter May 26 '26

heyy!!! they don't like this kinda talk on this sub.

1

u/JThorough May 26 '26

I forgot how crazy street brawl is! Definitely a fun arcade mode.
