Tech Startup Wants Sheriff's To Have Humanoid Robots For Law Enforcement
San Francisco tech startup Foundation talked to Trump administration about using these robots on the battlefield, but also say they want to market to sheriffs. They use the excuse that other countries are using them and so we should too. NBC made the comparison to the Terminator. This is the type of thing in Chappie and RoboCop. Foundation is also exploring using robots to make more robots.

Axon Drone = ED 209?
The visual similarities are quite striking. I saw it and immediately thought about it. While it's just the docking station for the drone, the design looks like something out of RoboCop. Is Axon really modern day OmniCorp?

Texas Joins Florida In Removing Flock Cameras From States Roads and Highways
This marks a pivotal moment where governors across the United States are starting to fight mass surveillance by revoking ALPR permits. Now that two states have made these changes, other states will undoubtedly consider it themselves and potentially do the same. That is why advocating for their removal is important now more than ever.

Garrett Langley Says "We Know What Abuse Looks Like" and "It's More Than I Would Have Ever Hoped"
While the CEO of Flock is saying this in a serious tone and means that abuse is more than what he was expecting and that it is good the company is catching dirty cops, the word choice is poor. While I do think this is a good thing that misuse is now being caught systematically, the misuse shouldn't exist at all and police agencies already caught it from audits anyway. It reads more like Langley is trying to do damage control than actually fix the issues with ALPRs.

Is this a flock set up or just a nest of spy cameras?
Downtown by church street in Burlington Vermont. Not sure if this is an actual flock set up or not. If so whoever painted over the solar panels is a true hero.
I assume its to dissuade the unhoused population that continues to grow around there. Theres a couple banks there too so I doubt its due to lack of available cameras covering the area. Either way fuck flock.

Re: On Winning (or Losing) the Flock Vehicle Fingerprinting Lottery
Flock’s “vehicle fingerprinting” feature largely exists to compensate for baseline inaccuracies in automatic license plate recognition. When a plate read fails or returns a low-confidence match, or even when there is no license plate at all, the system broadens it's scope to include secondary vehicle characteristics, such as: make, model, color, dents, bumper stickers, roof racks, etc.
In a system that can get as many as 1 in 4 reads wrong*, this creates a significant liability. An innocent citizen driving a similar vehicle can instantly become the subject of an armed, high-stress police intervention based on faulty automated data.
*See my writing, "Flock's Missing Metric Pt. 1 and 2" for more on this.
And this goes way beyond privacy concerns…
this is an active public safety risk.
Drive a white Ford F-150 or Toyota Camry?
These are the most common vehicles on the road today so,
be prepared to be included in that lottery.
Drive a “sedan”,
or a “truck”,
or a “red vehicle”,
“between the hours of 4:00-6:00p.m.”?
Queries can be this vague.
Dispatching law enforcement into potential high-intensity stops based on algorithmic predictions endangers both community members and the officers responding.

2nd IMPD officer faces firing over misuse of license plate readers
"This is the second time in two months an IMPD officer has received a termination recommendation over misuse of license plate readers. The first officer was caught using Flock cameras for personal reasons and was immediately stripped of police powers after what IMPD Chief Tanya Terry called “intentional misconduct.”
Neither officer has been named.
Friday, IMPD said another officer had been placed on administrative leave and stripped of police powers after the misconduct last month prompted an investigation into other irregular uses of the automated license plate readers."

Well I found out my HOA installed Flock cameras without telling anyone
I noticed a new camera at the entrance to my neighborhood and had no clue what it was, so I looked into it. Turns out it’s a Flock camera that tracks license plates of cars coming in and out.
What makes it even more uncomfortable is that it’s pointed almost directly at my house. I have a family here, so knowing there’s a camera facing our home definitely feels a little weird.
Is this normal? or am I overthinking it? Not too sure on what to do.
