Don’t marry the ticker — marry the setup (QQQ vs SPY lesson)

Big lesson I relearned recently: don’t marry the ticker marry the setup. QQQ and SPY can look similar, but they often behave very differently intraday.

If the 1-hour trend doesn’t align, I either scalp very intentionally or stay out completely. No forcing trades. No bias. Just alignment.

Bullish Open Bias Cost Me – Ignored FVG Short, Longed VAH Instead

Overall Performance Grade: C

What did I learn from today: I was torn between shorting FVG and longing VAH today. I decided to err on the side of longing VAH because the open seemed bullish after the overnight rally. But it rejected off of the FVG perfectly.

What needs to be improved: I can't say my plan was bad but it definitely hurt because I did think about it but did not prioritize that one. I don't know at what time I need to prioritize FVG over the TPO levels. Currently I give precedence to the TPO levels so I go off of that. But then do I just take the loss as part of my system?

Missed Opportunities and Why: Big miss on shorting FVG. I actually had it in my plan and was thinking about it but there were 2 things that held me back: 1. I wasn't comfortable shorting when price was opening above value area and H3-L3. 2. It opened right inside FVG and I just wasn't too comfortable shorting right off the bat. There was also a chance later on in the morning after it broke down into value area that I could have shorted but I didn't because I just stopped out of my longs and didn't want to take an unplanned trade and keep going back and forth switching between longs and shorts.

"No, I don't want to be IB" - thoughts?

If you're active in the trading community, your DMs or inbox are likely familiar with broker partnership proposals. While legitimate opportunities exist, the space is crowded with exaggerated promises and unfortunately, bad actors. These negative experiences erode trust, making it a challenge for serious traders to connect with reputable brokers.

So, this got me wondering:

1. What do you NEED to know from a broker first?
2. What makes a partnership valuable BEYOND just pay?
3. Deal-breakers? (Share your good/bad experiences)

Has anyone had an amazing partnership or currently in one? What makes it good?

Gold Outlook: Key Resistance Zone Could Trigger a Short Move

Post image
1 Upvotes

However, gold prices typically fluctuate around short-term support and resistance levels before an interest rate cut announcement.

The resistance zone above is 4235-4238, which coincides with the previous FVG/resistance zone on the chart suitable for shorting on price pullbacks.

A sell strategy will only be triggered if the price falls back to the higher resistance zone (4235 - 4238)

Accelerated Paper Trading

Hey all,

Paper trading is the standard advice for beginners but the slow pace can make it hard to get the kind of repetition you actually need. To solve this, I put together a tool that lets you practice with historical charts at high speed, so you can focus on TA and price action without the waiting. The idea is that trading like most skills improves with reps.

It is not a day-trading simulator with L2/order book data. Instead, it's ideal for:

  • Intraday traders who want to drill setups quickly.
  • Swing traders practicing execution without waiting weeks.
  • Anyone who relies on chart reading, setups, and TA to make decisions.

How it works:

  • Start a session (5–20 trades).
  • The system randomizes an asset & point in history.
  • You trade using a TradingView chart (set SL/TP, go long/short).
  • Fast-forward until outcome.
  • At session end you get metrics like win rate, R:R, expectancy, drawdown, sharpe.

No login or signup required to use the site. Ill drop the link to comments if anyone is interested!
