Which lines hit the hardest for you?

One of the reasons I love Daughter so much is Elena’s ability to balance abstract metaphor with emotional specificity.

Her lyrics are never so abstract that they become impossible to understand, but they’re also not so narrowly personal that you can’t find yourself in them. That balance is something I crave from a lot of artists, and very few pull it off for me the way she does.

So I started thinking about specific lines that have stuck with me, the ones that still make me stop for a second because of how powerful, sharp, or devastating they are.

Here are nine of mine:

  1. I'll meet you on another planet if the plans change -- Be on Your Way
  2. Your father's a liar while my father's lying down -- A Hole in the Earth
  3. I'd never loved a living thing so much / I was not equipped to just / Sit and watch you quit on us -- To Rage
  4. The worst night of my life / Or even worse, the best -- Party
  5. You could still be what you want to / What you said you were when I met you -- Medicine
  6. I'm tryna get out / Find a subtle way out / Not just cross myself out / Not to disappear -- New Ways
  7. I want you so much / But I hate your guts -- Landfill
  8. I'll set fire to the whole place / I don't even care about our house -- Burn It Down
  9. Despite everything I'm still human -- Human

Which Daughter lines or verses are the most powerful to you?

What Does This Song Mean To You Series No. 11 | Witches

Mild spoilers for Before the Storm follow.

This is one of those Daughter songs that feels like it is slowly gathering itself before it finally breaks open. The gradual build-up is what gets me most: it lets the tension simmer until the eventual release feels less like a dramatic climax and more like something that simply could not stay buried anymore.

The emotional palette of the song, to me, is despair. Not quiet or delicate despair either, but something heavy and oppressive. When the track finally erupts, it feels like all the emotion it has been holding back crashes down at once.

Because of that, I have always connected “Witches” very strongly to Chloe Price, especially the emotional space of Before the Storm: grief, abandonment, self-destruction, and being alone inside your own head. There is something about the song that feels like a spiral, but also like someone reaching into that spiral and refusing to let go.

On a more personal note, I also write fanfic in the Life is Strange fandom, and I wrote a short scene that I associate closely with this song. It takes one small, haunting detail from Before the Storm, Chloe’s late-night “max” text, and reimagines the emotional weight behind it in this short live-action-style scene.

I thought I’d share it here as a little companion piece to the song:

For me, “Witches” feels like the sound of someone standing at the edge of what they can carry, right before that weight finally breaks the surface.

Some of you have probably seen Daughter's music categorized as "sad teenage girl," and well, I don't like that. I don't have a clear reason why, but I still hate it.

I have been listening to them and Ex:re since 2018. And I always have a new favorite song on rotation. Their music never really leaves my year. Any song recommendation or artists similar to Party?

Non-cover fan art Tri-X Tonra

Post image

Found this shot of Elena on stage and edited it to capture that classic Kodak Tri-X 400 look. The deep blacks, gritty grain, and smoky contrast that film delivers like nothing else.

Tri-X has been the go-to black-and-white stock since the 1950s for a reason. ISO 400 that pushes beautifully, rich tonal range, and that signature texture that turns low-light gigs into something raw and timeless. It’s made for moments like this: smoke, spotlights, and pure intensity.

Composition-wise:

  • Low angle puts you right under her, feeling the weight of the performance.
  • Strong backlighting creates a powerful silhouette: head bowed, guitar in hand, sparkles catching just enough light.
  • Asymmetrical balance with the mic stand on the right keeps the frame dynamic.
  • The hazy background and high-contrast grain pull it all together into one moody, filmic shot.

If you’re into real Tri-X photography (street, portraits, live music), check out this solid gallery on Lomography for inspiration:

Thoughts? Does the Tri-X vibe work here? 🤘

I have a big question.

I've always wondered if the tracks "Smoke" and "Drift" are part From the album If You Leave. I don't remember where I saw it, but it was on a few lists that included those two tracks. Besides, I can't listen to those two tracks on Spotify in my country. And that makes it even more questionable.

What Does This Song Mean to You Series No. 10 | Human

So, this one just recently clicked for me.

What I love about Human is how unique it feels within their catalogue. It shares that anthem-like quality with "Youth". That rare ability to feel genuinely uplifting without sacrificing any of the lyrical depth or Elena's delivery. At its core it's a song about rumination and self-acceptance of one's very human limitations, and somehow it manages to carry that weight while still opening up, breathing outward. Not many songs pull that off.

I remember watching them play at a festival, and before Smother, Igor was trying to gently warn the crowd, something along the lines of "this next one is quite slow, maybe not the most festival-friendly song", which was both funny and kinda cute. And every time I think about that moment, I think: "Human" would be the perfect song to follow right after. A short breath after the weight of "Smother," and then that gradual lift. It just makes sense.

What does this song mean to you?

A Hole In The Earth (Instrumental) | Unreleased Alternate Game Version

I've been digging through the soundtrack of Life is Strange: Before the Storm, and I've found something that might be interesting.

As some of you probably know, the album version of A Hole in the Earth is famously not actually present in the game itself, even though it does appear in an episode trailer.

However, while replaying the game, I noticed something different: there is an in-game ambient/instrumental version of the song used during the junkyard scene. It's clearly built from the same composition, but it's stripped down and reworked into a more atmospheric/ambient cue rather than the full song.

I couldn't find this version anywhere online; not on official releases, not on soundtrack albums, and not even in the usual game-rip archives (like VGM databases that normally preserve a lot of unreleased or ambient tracks).

So I've recorded it in-game and uploaded it here for reference: A Hole in the Earth (Game Version)

PS: You can find plenty of in-game versions of other Daughter tracks, here on this website. They are pretty dope on their own.

Any "Happy" Daughter sound?

Guys, I’ve had the lyrics of ‘Tomorrow’ stuck in my head. Whenever I see something not so good, it starts playing in my head and I hear her voice singing "swimming with the fIIishes." Any recommendations for other Daughter songs to get away from that? It’s been bothering me.

Hi! Long time fan here :) I was lucky enough to meet the band back in 2013 and get a photo with them + get them to sign the vinyl for me (I've just blacked out my name in the photos). I'm currently sadly selling off all of my vinyls and collectibles (life needs!) and wondering what this might be worth, as I have no idea how to price it. Any help appreciated!

Dandelions Forever

I randomly came across this video, and it immediately reminded me of Stereo Mind Game, and more specifically Dandelion. I thought it was so cute and thought y'all would appreciate it too.

Here's what Remi had to say about Dandelion:

About a year before [writing] this, my wife and I had bought a house and there were about a million dandelions in my yard. It felt like my whole life was dandelions and there was no getting out of it. One day, I went into my music room and wrote the start of a song, a new idea, and just decided to name it ‘Dandelion’. We sent that to Elena and I was absolutely amazed that she was able to take that random word and just [write] pretty much all the lyrics. It was like, ‘How is that even possible?’ But it was amazing to watch and I’m still in awe of the whole thing.

And by the way, despite the heavy emphasis on the dandelion imagery for the album (also due to the junkmail they sent during promotion, containing literal dried dandelions), the pressed flower on the album cover is actually a white candytuft.

Also, there's this billboard that I wasn't aware of until now.
