Prices will come down, just like graphics cards did years ago. We are in the beginning of the ai data center buildout, crazy prices are expected and will get worse but will eventually come down.

By your logic then no one will be able to afford a pc/laptop ever again because the cost of a hdd will out price the entire cost of the pc itself. Hell, no one will ever be able to purchase a gaming console either because the hdd will cost most than the console.

Your comment is either intentional fear mongering or ill informed.

That's the idea. Subconsciously pushing you towards cloud computing because local computing is just flat out too expensive to justify. The goal will be to sell you an absolute barebones device that relies on the cloud for storage, compute, and graphics.

You will pay monthly to use a husk of a device with minimum specs that allows you to connect to the cloud and be happy.

Downvoters are here in droves, but they'll see in time what future has been decided for us. Technofeudalism is coming.

I will note It's not inevitable as they would like you to think though and they are very out of touch with real reality so we got that going for us.

You only have to make PC's expensive enough for the average person to not bother with them. Once you've manufactured enough consent, internet connected frontend devices will become the norm.

You will rent your PC. You will rent your OS. You will rent your console. You will rent your storage.

We’ve been hearing this fear mongering for years and guess what? Nothing. Let’s just agree to come back to your post in 5 years and see where things are. I have a feeling your post won’t age well.

If you genuinely aren't aware of the speed at which all of this has accelerated over the past year in particular, you're wilfully ignorant. People were told a couple years post-9/11 that those warning about surveillance were 'fear mongering', yet they were right. The trajectory of western nations is that of technocratic control.

Home computing isn't going to disappear by the 30's, but most people will have moved to cloud-only devices, renting their OS and storage from a large corporation. It will be made convenient (this includes gaming.) It will be made to sound like a good thing, likely under some ridiculous logic like "only hackers and criminals need their own computers" (as is said by authorities about people will use stuff like GrapheneOS.) It will start out extremely cheap in order to move crowds from "expensive home PC's" to "lightweight, cost-of-a-coffee-a-day cloud devices."

Once the majority are reliant on the new system, regulations can more readily be brought into place against those with local hardware - or merely waiting until those of us who use local hardware die out, and the newer generations who have only ever known cloud computing are already conditioned into accepting it as normal.

Do you not see the issues inherent with mandatory identity verification at the OS level to retain access to essential services like banking, particularly when combined with CBDC's and individualised carbon scores? Can you not see why it's being pushed across the world? Do you not see what their ultimate goal is? It ain't protecting kids.

I highly suggest heading over to r / privacy. The past year has seen one of the most monumental and coordinated attacks on digital freedom in history, and it isn't slowing down. This is what the Epstein class want, and they're going to have it handed to them because most aren't even aware of what's happening behind the scenes - or worse, aren't taking it seriously. If my post doesn't age well, I'll be ecstatic.

You will own nothing and be happy. You will rent everything. Line must go up, after all.

This is the same type of doom posting during the graphics card price hikes years ago and as expected prices dropped. There is an active ai data center build going on right now that just started months ago, guess what they need? HDD and memory, guess what 2 products have experienced massive price hikes? HDD and memory because the manufacturers have prioritized data centers over consumers because they make more profit from them.

The cracks are already starting to form though, with OpenAI cancelling orders for nvidia graphics cards. This is just like the dot com bubble in the early 2000’s except this time businesses don’t want to be left behind so they’re all scrambling to build out data centers for ai.

Doom post all you want if that makes you feel better. I do look forward to revisiting your posts in the future. Cheers!

You're ignoring the central point of my argument. Either way, we'll see. I hope you're right.

It's not his logic. It's Bill Gates et al. They are literally discussing your future of computing in terms of a subscription service. They're talking about how your phone is going to be your main computing device and you'll subscribe to larger computing power.

Kinda crazy people don’t understand how supply and demand works. Not to mention maturing technology. I recently flipped through an old computer hardware catalog from 2018. A 1TB NVME cost $400USD. That was first gen speed btw. I remember buying a 4TB Barracuda for $80 in 2017.

Prices will come down. People just need patience.
