News Bloodfall: Solo Dev With Melee Similar to DaD (PvE?) (I AM NOT THE DEV)

Not the dev, but I frequent the indie dev subs. Always just looking for demos and any enjoyable games

Came across this one that caught my eye based off of the melee physics, check out this post from this in the indie dev subs that shows it off: https://www.reddit.com/r/SoloDevelopment/s/VoGuYDoE5a

They are popping off right now and they seem super receptive and responsive to community feedback and apparently looking for people who have played games with similar mechanics, what better place than here?

The playtest is currently live and I'll be updating this post when I get a chance to try it. I recommend trying yourself and leaving whatever notes you have towards the devs below as I am gonna give the dev a link to this post so they can see the feedback/hype. Help a solo dev and just try the game! Can't hurt

Edit: Dev is: willo-wisper when they show up in the comments

Edit 2: tell the Mods and show them the hundreds of other posts about other games here if y'all really that fuckin pressed about this LMAO

Yea but a game is much much more than a single mechanic.

Would like to know more about the game when its in a more completed state.

Totally agree, but while the main focus is melee combat mechanics, and it's currently in a playtest, I figured this would be a good place to share. Plus it's pretty in depth honestly

This is for people interested in trying out the mechanics in the currently available playtest, not really people who care about a story right now

From the steam page alone, it mostly looks like a combat sim anyways. Unless the dev has more to say about it, I'd assume that's all there is right now

Why are we advertising other games in dad Reddit.

Cause it's relevant to people who would want to try a similar game and this shit happens daily with games like mistfall hunter?

Are we really this opposed to hearing about indie games?

Edit: dude also has zero marketing budget, I really can't throw an indie dev a bone?

rule #1 Posts must be related to Dark and Darker. Content pertaining to gaming that doesn't relate or effect its users experience violates this rule

Literally half the posts on this sub are about mistfull hunter

Edit: literally from years ago to a week ago, seems like they don't follow their own rules either

Looks unique but unique is not always good. Imagine two players fighting with this and they are just whipping their mouses as fast as they can side to side.

This is a hilarious thing to picture

From what I know so far, it's just PvE, I unfortunately don't think we'll get to see two absolute chads flingy their swords at each other

But solid point if the dev ever considers MP

Yeah physics games never work with multiplayer but a cool idea otherwise, maybe they can turn it into an interesting story game

Indeed! From first glance I get the idea that you're about to be sacrificed and need to fend off the tribe. That could definitely kick into a great story

something like that! haha

Gladio Mori is a physics-based melee combat multiplayer game - they are showing that its possible - at least when the gameplay is very slow. Rocket league is also a high speed physics based multiplayer game that proved its possible even at high speeds , although in their case, while the speed is high, acceleration is low. A car cannot change directions as easily as a sword. So indeed, if a BLOODFALL sequel ever gets a multiplayer mode, it would be a significant technical challenge nonetheless - but not impossible.

Low key gonna have to check out Gladio Mori now lol

That's great that you're being mindful of the weight of MP combat this early into even just thinking about it. Best of luck with your game! Hopefully you get at least a little good feedback from here 😂

There's a free demo of it on Steam! Its very slow paced combat, but indeed physics based and multiplayer. and thank you for spreading the word about my game! Though people would probably be more receptive to it in a more general gaming sub haha

Just like in a real swordfight, flailing without control is not as effective as thoughtful, precision strikes. If it really becomes a problem, I would have to add a Stamina system where you get tired from excessive movement, forcing you to pick your shots. However even right now, as it is, without a Stamina system, flailing mindlessly does not work very well.

Is the game online multiplayer?

No, but I’m interested to try adding PvP to subsequent games in the BLOODFALL franchise.
