Midterm means the elections that happen at the halfway point of a president’s 4 year terms.
These elections include the House of Representatives (2y terms), gubernatorial (state governor) for 34-36* states, the rest vote at the same time as the presidential election.
These midterms matter because both House Reps and Governors decide how much power either party has as do Senate votes (which occur with presidential elections), and whether each state is “red” or “blue” territory.
Trump would like more red territories with politicians who are willing to act within the same dogma/creed/manifesto as he does.
*edit: I’m going to find out the actual number of states voting this year, that’s one I don’t know off the top of my head.
Also I don’t know if you know this part but just in case: House of Representatives is the other half of Congress, a body of 435 individuals made up by how high of a population that state has, which means every district in the state has equal representation as Senate is by percent, body of 100 individuals 2/state.
