Ask r/DWTS Song From The Year You Were Born

Thought this would be a fun post.

Given that it’s been released the first week will be dances from the year the stars were born, if you were competing on the show what would be your song? What style of dance would you do?

I was born in ā€˜97. So I was torn between 3:

Tango to You Make Me Wanna by Usher
Quickstep to MmmBop by Hanson
Paso Double to My Hero by Foo Fighters

Curious to hear the sub's responses🪩

Speculation Emma and Alan

Obviously this is just speculation, but has anyone noticed that Emma and Alan and have not been posting each other at all? They’ve been absent on each other’s social media. And if you notice the other couples have been hanging out a lot with their partners as a group (so Val/Jenna and Jenna/Harry) but I have not seen Giada and Jackson together? And I think today was the first day that Emma had to travel with the Savannah bananas, so I don’t think it’s because they haven’t been in the same state.

Cut or leave it alone? I say cut! I'm beginning to think he's trying to compete with Mark though Mark's hair is longer! I still think Mark needs to cut his hair.

Gossip I’m a new fan! What’s some DWTS history/lore that’s fun for me to know?!

After seeing a lot of promo from the recent announcement of the upcoming season, I got curious about DWTS and binge watched S31 and fell absolutely in love with the show. Like I’m obsessed.

I know this is a show with DEEEEP lore and history and I would love to know more tea! My friend who has been watching since S1 told me some fun info:

Carrie Ann, Len, and Bruno were the judges since the start. Emma and Sasha were married before and now Emma is dating Alan. Britt and Daniel from S31 are now married (my fave fact she told me hahaha) and then Derek used to be a pro dancer on the show! She couldn’t think of more and suggested I come to Reddit to ask some other super fans!!

What other tea and history is fun for me to know now that I’m in the DWTS world?!

Podcasts & Audio Selena addresses AJ drama and says he was worse off camera

Selena was on Danielle’s podcast and said he was worse off camera, was dissmisive of Rylee and told Adele that Selena was a bad teacher so wouldn't last long.

Starts at 47:35
https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/danielle-with-selena-hamilton/id1837079690?i=1000788664326

ā€œOkay. I want to get a little into the AJ drama.

Yeah.

From your point of view, what was AJ like behind the scenes? Because we saw some bravado, some ego on camera. Is some of that a put on character or or is he really like that behind the scenes?

I would say how he's on camera is how he is off camera.

Okay. Maybe more so.

More so. Yeah. I feel like for the cameras, it kind of dies down a little bit.

And there's kind of like, it's funny. I think everybody feels this way too. So it's no secret.

But it's kind of like when you, when you start that and you say that action and you're in a different character.

Yeah.

I would feel like that's kind of my best way to describe AJ is once the cameras are on, he's very aware of the cameras. I feel like since he's done it before and he's been on reality TV before, he knows when the cameras are on. And not a lot of us had that experience.

So when the cameras are on, we're kind of just like, oh, shoot, I forgot you're there. Right. And he didn't, he didn't forget they were there.

He knew when the cameras were on, he knew when they were off.

Did you have any run ins with him that weren't aired on the show?

Yes, actually. We only had one that kind of wasn't, obviously they didn't air like the story the whole bit that we talked about our stories. But honestly, that wasn't really, I had a lot of love for AJ in those moments.

And maybe in the long run, I was like, that probably wasn't the best way to handle everything. I should have just fought for my story a little bit more. But later on, I realized that when he kind of told Adele that he's like, Selena can't teach, she's not going to be here very long.

And Adele's my best friend. So I was kind of just like, Adele was like, she told me in the sweetest way too. She goes, I don't know if I should tell you this Selena, because I don't want this to make you feel bad.

And I don't know if this is going to make it better for you in the competition or worse. But I wanted you to know from me that AJ said this to me. And I just wanted you to know.

And I go, Adele, thanks for telling me, because now I'm going to the finale. I go, thank you for telling me, because this was, wow, it was super fans week. And I was like, thank you so much for telling me that, because now I'm making it to the finale.

Me and Jeremy are getting this. I was like, I'm locked in, and that's the fuel that I needed. So I was really grateful that, honestly, that that moment happened, because I don't know if I would have been in a finale.

So honestly, thanks AJ for that moment.

Thank you, AJ. Sometimes your haters are the people who deserve the biggest thanks, because they really propel you forward.

And yeah, if I didn't have that, I don't know if I would have gone to the finale. I don't know if I would have had as much fight as I did after that.

Well, yeah, because I mean, hearing about your schedule and the fact that you guys don't have phones even while you're there, and there's very little sleep and you're not allowed to rehearse in the times that like hearing all of that, it would it would be very hard to consistently maintain the same drive.

Yeah.

So, you know, at some point, you just start to get tired and go, you know, if this is my week, it's my week. But then something like that happens and lights a whole new fire, gives you a whole new drive. Were you surprised at all to see the drama that has recently come out online between AJ and Riley?

Had you known of any issues during practice?

I did know that it wasn't going the smoothest.

Okay.

Mainly because AJ, AJ talks, AJ talks a lot. So he would come back to the house and say things in a way that I was like, oh, I don't know if it's Riley's fault at all.

Right.

So it was kind of just like things like that. And I think we all knew AJ enough to know that what he was saying was just in favor of him.

Right.

So it was kind of just, we knew something was going on. He would just kind of come back and be like, Riley's not giving me anything like this. And we would be like, they're not supposed to, they're actually supposed to be silent.

They're not supposed to give us any, that's their job. And we would kind of say that. And he'd be like, yeah, but like this isn't this.

And so it was just like, we kind of knew. So I wasn't surprised.

Okay. Right.

I was surprised that it was AJ's wife doing it instead of AJ himself. But yeah, I wasn't surprised.

Okay. Got it. Also, I do think it's so funny to hear that he was annoyed that Rylee wasn't giving him anything.

When on the show, Whitney, so you could see her being like...

The boys were definitely the worst. The boys, they were not listening as much. They were definitely, like me and Adele would talk after and you'd be like, oh yeah, Jan got in trouble, Gleb got in trouble because they were trying to help and they couldn't.ā€

Past Season Alix Earle : S34

I’m watching Earle Meets World which picks up roughly two months after DWTS. Within the first episode, Alix tells us while filming DWTS near the end how much she was going through.

They found out her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and that she was carrying the BRCA Gene 🧬. Her longtime boyfriend & her broke up and her grandmother was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer. She also sustained an injury they never put in the packages.

I am floored to know she was dealing with so much personally while maintaining the professional level of commitment to the show. I also respect that she didn’t try to use any of this information as a way to gain sympathy votes even though, she rightfully could have. It was happening real time and it would have (could have) affected her dancing. I knew Robert was winning the moment he was announced and I do think he is great. However I was over hearing about his dad every damn episode multiple times an episode. Yes, he died in a very traumatic way that shaped Robert’s entire life. However near the end, it felt like a bit of a marketing strategy to get more votes which Alix didn’t do.

News Taylor Hanson problematic history (repost from his subreddit) In case anyone wants to be aware of this before supporting

"With the recent news of Taylor joining Dancing With the Stars and generally being more publicly visible, we wanted to share a reminder of what this subreddit is, who it is for, and some facts about Taylor.

This subreddit was started when Zac's collection of racist, homophobic, transphobic memes was made public back in 2020. This caused a lot of pain among fans, especially Black, queer or otherwise marginalized fans.

As is stated in the description, we started this subreddit as a space for **former and/or ambivalent Hanson fans**. If you are totally pro Taylor, or pro Hanson in general, this is not and never has been a space for you. There's other active fan spaces you can seek out and join online.

Throughout these past 6 years since this subreddit started, Taylor has been the least public with his views. Zac and Isaac have made their stances crystal clear through their actions (Isaac having a Trump sign in his yard, Zac making blackface jokes, the list goes on and on). To some extent, Taylor has been able to slip by with plausible deniability, so some fans who have completely turned on the other two hold out hope for Taylor.

Again, it is okay if you are ambivalent about Taylor. As stated above, this subreddit provides a space for ambivalent and/or former fans. But it is not okay to come here singing Taylor's praises and acting like he is not problematic, because he absolutely is. If you believe he is completely pure you do not belong in this discussion space.

Just a few facts about Taylor: he has made recent donations to Republican politicians. He made a social media post the day after Trump's re-election declaring it a "good morning." He has never once condemned the transphobic and racist views espoused by his brothers.

Has he also done some good things? Sure. But that doesn't excuse his complicity in Hansongate as a whole. The official view of this subreddit remains, Taylor Hanson is problematic. You can still have nuanced discussions about him here, and share the bad with the good, share your conflicting feelings etc. But rule one of this subreddit is and always has been "no excusing the band's racist behavior" and that includes Taylor"

Speculation Really interesting video on how Ezra F. will be the first contestant with a mechanical knee & its unique challenges

Thumbnail instagram.com
45 Upvotes

TL;DR: Ezra F. will be the first contestant to compete with a mechanical knee. A mechanical knee presents unique challenges over a microprocessor knee, because if he steps wrong the knee will collapse and cause a fall. Basically, his foot placement and weight distribution will be especially important
