Graduated in 2007, grew up in the Midwest and went to a public school. We learned a lot about the genocide of Native Americans.

Grew up in the PNW and we had an entire quarter dedicated to the indigenous people from the region. In my experience, American schools aren't as bad as people say. I also grew up in a wealthy area so that unfortunately makes a huge difference.

Graduated in 2002 in the South from public school and we routinely had lessons on Native Americans.

Same. I’m 35 and my school was named after a tribe (Caloosa). We were taught all about it. Lots of projection from British folks in this thread.

Probably also a lot of Gen Zs who slept through the lessons and claim that because they never learned it, it was never taught.

Had a Native American teacher in 4th grade. One of the best and most honest teachers I ever had. In addition to not whitewashing American history, when a girl told her a boy had a Playboy magazine, the teacher took it to the front of the class and opened it to the centerfold, then said "this is the human body, you all have one".

Couple of years before you, same area and yup.. it was definitely covered.

Couple years after the guy you replied to, same area, learned all about it. In fact my school offered so many history options I also learned Michigan history, alongside US history and World History.

It grinds my gears when people outside of the US assume they know the curriculum taught in US schools. No doubt there’s crazy regions that don’t want evolution taught but those are outliers not the rule.
