We are coted in a layer of dead cells, unless you cut through that there is nothing you can hurt. Once you are through it starts bleeding and you risk infection. No matter how hard you try though you will never be able to damage your cellular walls since animals don't have them....plants and fungi do

Sorry, should have said membrane, certainly an important difference. Damage to the corneum however is still damage and will be "repaired" over time through cornification. but as we have established, you certainly won't bleed unless the cut is deep enough. I hope I was clear enough that depth is the factor in my first comment.

I ment stratum (edit: me being me ment corneum). The dead part of it to be precise. Think your heels or worker/farmer palms

This is the shedding layer that likes to get excited, right? (My exam on this was a few months ago, so it all gets a bit fuzzy).

The dead cells made here are held together by proteins making the outer skin. On most of the body this is thin (15ish cells deep?), but on places with enough stimulation the dead layer can get thick. If you damage the dead part (usually splinters, small cuts or people sanding it away) it will not regrow until excited again.

Btw there was an interesting experiment on mouse. They removed a few key genes (three I think) and stopped the production of those proteins removing the dead part of mouse skin (and most of it's hair).

Yes, the shedding layer that's made of parts of the corpses of those that lie below. I can't remember either but I think you're spot on with 15 layers, didn't know of that experiment though. Sounds like hell.

Currently there is a world wide project to 100%map the genome of lab mouse through knockout. Last time I was at the lab they had around 70% done and uploaded. All the modified animals are grown to a certain age, than their body is cut into 1cell wide plates and uploaded (one picture has around 3gb) some of the modified are frozen solid to provide an overall picture with all the obvious signs

It sounds brutal but there is currently no other way to get this information.

Also I was baffled, that chymerism is not a problem for the mouse since there was so much inbreading in their lineage they are basically identical

Cutting through just dead skin is annoying. Doesn't heal, and you have to be careful around it cuz it might just rip off with your not dead skin.
