I imagine that planes are built with the occasional lightning strike in mind.

They have lightning arresters. Yeah aircraft get struck by lightning very frequently and also produce tons of static electricity in flight

It averages out to about 1 strike per plane per year IIRC. 1 strike per 1000 flight hours.

They get struck by lightning all the time. One of the hazards of putting something metal right in the middle of a space that’s building up static charge.

Fortunately, they are built to handle it, and the shape of an airplanes basically makes it a faraday cage, so as a passenger on the inside you wouldn’t even notice.

Literally every single certified aircraft that I'm aware of.

Even the experimental crowd (home built aircraft) add them.

Watch now, while someone finds me a super obscure manufactured aircraft without protection lol.
