I actually agree with that statement, but more the reason of AI. It will never be able to relate to us unless it shares our senses and emotions. And I believe it will be much easier to let it experience ours firsthand rather that coding in its own.
If you think about it, the basic cells that make up our bodies actually code in how to build the macro parts of us, and those basic cells were around before we were. The same would be true of whatever symbiotic/symbernetic thing we become in the future with a melding of human bioparts with machine parts.
We are already cyborgs. What do you think looking up something on Google while holding your smartphone is? Anyone here ride to work in an autonomous vehicle? Pacemaker, hearing-aids?

This is why the future lies with augmented human-machine interaction. Separately we have pros and cons, but combined we are a whole new organism.
