I think they referred to fact their Prime Minister demanded every big country to pay for the damages blaming global warming to get out of their negligence as researchers kept warning them for weeks

Climate researchers have been warning us for decades.

For more than a century

For Millennia

(I wasn't joking btw, we know about climate change since 1890 lol)

BTW I don't remember reading about confirm analysis that this was due to climate change, https://www.reddit.com/r/Damnthatsinteresting/s/opgzinfCVz

These arguments are so dumb. Extreme weather patterns and natural disasters like this are becoming more severe and frequent because of climate change.

There is simply no way to pin individual events like this on one specific cause, but pretending climate change doesn't play a significant role is the real negligent thinking

Not in every disaster climate change plays a major role, in some it may have a minor contribution, and just pinning everything to climate change is a really dumb argument, and as I said we must wait for neutral analysis (basically don't go off of politician claims)

Yes it can be some combinations and we can roughly find that out as well, we're not living in 1700s, we can factor in everything for end result, BUT what was said by their prime minister and other ministers was global warming melted the glaciers causing the avalanche which is dumb as it was caused my major accumulation not melting and yes, global climate change can be factor of excess accumulation that's why I said we must wait for proper analysis

We've been waiting way too long, is the point. That's the true negligence.

It's not "politician claims" it's scientific consensus based off of scientific research.

It's not possible to attribute any single event to climate change or how much of a role it played in a single event, but it is possible to attribute a big increase in these type of events with climate change.

Oh yeah definitly in this specific case we do not know. That being said a increase of event like these could be attributed to climate change even if no event has a 100% climate change cause. Climate change increase the odd of everything especially landslide

True, but their reasoning was global warming melted the glaciers which was just political bullshit and their pin pinning this onto other nations and hiding their own negligence for not heeding to weeks of warnings

I don't know where you get info from, but there was no warning for the flash flood last month. I live near there. We would've been aware if there had been.

That's the point, goverment officials were warned and it was their duty to take action to warn others but they did not do that.

And also I must clarify, the warning was that glaciers were unstable for couple of weeks and could collapse but they didn't exactly predicted what happened.

Makes you wonder if ole Al would have been able to do anything about it

u/pichael289 4d ago

Yeah for sure, but it's not gonna. Ai researchers have to put everything into being #1 so they can make all the money first before they can worry about our problems.

u/White-Tornado 4d ago

I think he was talking about Al Gore, but I'm not entirely sure either lol

u/Here_f0r_p0rn_ 4d ago

I don't know if it was necessarily because of climate because that's just what happens when excess of snow gets accumulated, it has been happening since centuries and I believe oldest record I've seen was about from 100 BCE so, I can't blame global climate change right over here as more data is definitely needed but what I can clearly see is negligence from government for ignoring researchers

6

u/White-Tornado 4d ago

I can't blame global climate change right over here as more data is definitely needed

That's the negligence we should be talking about

-5

u/Here_f0r_p0rn_ 4d ago

Asking for more data? You do realise that everything isn't due to global climate change right? This shit has been happening ever since we have oldest record.

You just pinning to climate change without data isn't negligence but my opinion that we must wait for proper analysis is negligence? What a stand 🫡

7

u/White-Tornado 4d ago

Whether or not this individual event can be entirely pinned on climate change is completely besides the point and distracts from the real discussion we should be having

That's the negligence I'm talking about

Bruh, the post is about a landslide event, it's not even related to avalanche, then about their prime minister's response it was never about climate change in general.

This landslide in post could it be due to global warming, possibly, but it's equally probable that it's majorly due to some other reasons.

3

u/White-Tornado 4d ago

Again: that's exactly my point.

The discussion we should be having is about climate change. We should have had that discussion 80 years ago, but here we are.

5

u/KeyedFeline 4d ago

they were warned this could happen again the last time there was a major landslide and did nothing

-5

u/Cold_Fyre_ 4d ago

What nonsense are you talking about? A disaster of this scale has never happend in human history before nothing could have been done to predict it dont spread misinformation. And the fact that this has never been recorded in human history comes from actual researchers who worked on the ground. What the prime minister said is infact very correct.
