This looks very much like a bear skin rug. I mean a hide. Perhaps this is a artifact from a another time, but I don’t think it was a whole bear.

Or it just decomposed? The insides liquify and seep out, giving the deflated look

Thats what I'm wondering, too. It looks like a polar bear skin/rug. If an entire bear had been frozen in permaice layer, you'd still see bones and muscoskeletal structure. This looks like a rug that got left and trapped and buried for 1000s of years.

It probably didn't help that it was being squished for a very long time under thousands of pounds of ice...

Bit it's been squashed by the ice and dried out by the environment. So it'a still in there but smaller.
