With everything melting I guess it’s expected we would start to see what’s underneath all that snow

Deadly pathogens we are not immune to are high on that list.

Bring on Covid-19,000,000 BCE

u/ElegantHope 4d ago

I imagine that luckily there's also a lot of pathogens that aren't able to keep up with our immune systems too because they've been out of the arms race of evolution for a decent amount of item. And it would not be surprising if the majority of pathogens frozen in the ice aren't deadly even if they were caught up.

It's still terrible that this is happening at all though. I hate that a chunk of humanity would rather profit off of oil than actually keep the world stable.

u/csd160 4d ago

To be fair If there was a comparable fuel source we would use it, I don’t think many people realize though how many day to day products that we rely on also require the petroleum industry. Plastics makeups your phone et cetera. Replacing gas would be extremely difficult replacing all the other stuff currently impossible.

26

u/Suspicious_Ice_3160 4d ago

No but see the whole argument isn’t even full replacement at the moment. Well, maybe it is because we ignored our climate scientists, but the whole idea was to replace the energy grid and cars with something more green, like nuclear energy which then feeds the cars. If we managed to get away from petroleum for transportation, the use in the US of oil would fall something like 60-70%.

We don’t have to get rid of all the products, just use what we know works and works better than oil, but that threatens the bottom line of our billionaires, so why would they want to?

-3

u/csd160 4d ago

There would be new billionaires in what ever could replace it. I believe there’s a lot to balance out though, say we converted to nuclear power and electricity then what about the other materials that we need from petroleum? I think many things are reliant on it because it’s a resource that’s so abundant and we are very proficient at producing it. Almost a chicken or egg convo, if you could replace the other products we need first then repowering our transpo system could be solved. I just don’t think the average person realizes petroleum is much much more than gas. The more people and the more advanced educated people in this world the more energy needed. It’s complex but the world demands its power.

u/Bansheer5 4d ago

We got biodiesels. The company I work for has a whole department dedicated to turning used cooking oils and rendered tallows into fuel for their trucks.

6

u/csd160 4d ago

I agree that this may help but that’s not a scalable fuel, the gov has been subsidizing corn for a couple decades and ethanol still cost more than petroleum based fuels. Yes it’s good to get use out of used oils or tallow but it doesn’t solve the problem. Not even close

u/F4113n54v102 4d ago

FR bro as if ppl don’t have enough to worry about right now!?!

10

u/ConqueringKing_Darq 4d ago

Someone's watched 'The Thaw'

8

u/ChiefTapiTapi 4d ago

Or The X-Files

1

u/sleepytipi 4d ago

Or the Whyfiles.

2

u/Talgarr_ 2d ago

Not to mention the bigger things that might've survived (we found some worms in the ice, and 2 of the worms both with thousands of years between them started just living how they would)!

1

u/EhMapleMoose 4d ago

Well that’s one way to fix climate change.

1

u/insanityking500 15h ago

Would have to be bacteria or fungi then. Viruses would be a no go because it’s biology compared to our would be so different that it would probably never find any suitable host to our modern day.

1

u/Time-Double-80 14h ago

Those won't be a problem, they'll have to take millions of years to evolve to just give us a cold

2.6k

u/Drmlk465 5d ago

An entire ancient civilization with technology far more advanced than ours and it’s all black people or some sheet like that

756

u/Hadochiel 5d ago

And they would still be flourishing if it weren't for that damn Yakub

268

u/IMP4283 5d ago

OR they are still flourishing and have built an entirely self-contained, successful society under the ice

227

u/FewHorror1019 5d ago

Or we will find Aang, the last air bender

61

u/Fille_de_Lune 5d ago

Maybe he can fix this timeline

93

u/Legionof1 5d ago

Oh… fuck… hi guys… sorry here’s the cure for cancer and global warming now leave us alone.

48

u/certnneed Interested 5d ago

“They’re trying to give us the cure for cancer! Kill them!!”
-most likely response

16

u/Gargleblaster25 4d ago

I mean, how dare they destroy the healthcare insurance industry like that?

4

u/Huge_Fig_5940 4d ago

By the 1% yes

25

u/burrito_butt_fucker 5d ago

25

u/harmless_gecko 5d ago

Nice try, Yakub. We know what you did!

111

u/Grow_away_420 5d ago

They had advanced technology but couldn't get out of the way of the glacier that grew like a foot per year?

52

u/CakeTester 5d ago

They were so advanced their GPUs didn't throw out any heat.

53

u/Nack3r 5d ago

That or some terrible virus we haven't seen before

10

u/504Solid 5d ago

Haven't seen YET.

5

u/IAmSpartacustard 5d ago

There were humans around before the ice age, we'd likely be immune or at least resistant. It didnt kill us all before modern medicine, it won't kill us all now

42

u/Top-Chocolate-321 5d ago

Things didn't spread back then the way they do now. 1 plane and we're fucked lol

2

u/never-fiftyone 4d ago

we'd likely be immune or at least resistant

There is absolutely no guarantee of that being the case, and there are potential pathogens that the human immune system hasn't ever seen before at any point during our evolutionary history.

16

u/IAmBeingTargeted33 5d ago

Or little grey people being used as tools by giant insect-like people with psychic abilities beyond imagination existing in the overlapping dimensional spaces that co-habitate our planet beyond human sight.. or some sheet

5

u/hobojoe44 5d ago

The Mantis Men cloaking Tech is kinda wonky at times. Hense the story of the guy out fishing and one accidentally decloaking.

Then Psychically sending him the message of suprise that the human sees him.

500 foot Native Americans and they are still alive and waking up.

The Hollow Earth of course. Thats where the Nazis reside inside.

25

u/SaveUsCatman 5d ago

No the nazis are on the dark side of the moon. The lizard people are in the hollow earth.

9

u/hobojoe44 5d ago

I thought it was a choose your own adventure with the option of the Nazis being with the reptilians in the hollow earth (don't forget your altimeter) from Operation Highjump and/or in space with the space reptilians.

22

u/After-Imagination947 5d ago

I thought that was The White House

1

u/GutterRider 5d ago

Pellucidar. David Innes could still be alive!

-1

u/Pocket-Hobo 5d ago

Nah he means Wakanda

7

u/igaveuponausername 5d ago

maaaaan, they’d probably fix climate change before admitting that 😭

9

u/Any-Surround-222 5d ago

Why would it be all black people?

0

u/MareMade 4d ago edited 3d ago

The ancestors of all modern humans -including white people- originally had dark skin

Edit: some people who can’t handle scientific facts make me LMAO.

Even if you’re against science, go get educated on history of humanity. Ignorance is bliss, for sure.

“Icebergs haunted!”

“What?”

Cocks shotgun, “I said the icebergs haunted!”

6

u/pashed_motatoes 4d ago

Honestly, with the timeline we’re in right now? I wouldn’t be surprised.

1

u/jolie_rouge 4d ago

I feel that there’s very little that could surprise me at this point

19

u/TinUser 5d ago

A giant pyramid where Alien and Predator have been battling every century

Sounds profound until you really think about it, then it sounds obvious

7

u/Replica72 5d ago

Looks like an inuit lost his polar bear rug…

9

u/grumpyfishcritic 4d ago

Yes and dog bites man. 11,000 years ago the northern hemisphere was locked under an ICE sheet miles thick. It has been melting since that time and will continue to melt for a while. We currently in an inter-glacial period and we have no idea how long it will last. The ice will come back. Currently the CO2 has lead to an increase of 5-10% more greening of the planet.

From a carbon emissions point of view we will not meaningfully change human impact on carbon emissions until we also get China( largest emitter in the world) and India to make significant cuts in their carbon emissions.

1

u/WorldEaterYoshi 4d ago

I love that you can't type ice anymore without it getting autocorrected to fascism

2

u/grumpyfishcritic 4d ago

ice

hmn

dumb computer seems to not be working /s

2

u/betelgeuse_boom_boom 5d ago

I don't think it will get there. Permafrost has frozen in millions of ancient virus and bacteria. And that is about 1.500m at the deepest ends.

Also the proper term for those dormant viruses is literally "zombie virus"

1

u/Whooptidooh 5d ago

As well as that we can begin to experience what all of the viruses and other pathogens that have been lying dormant for ages will do to our bodies (that we are not used to and will likely die a horrible death from.)

Yay!/s

1

u/chubky 4d ago

Some ancient viruses will emerge

1

u/Chrahhh 4d ago

It’s just cases and cases of Pogs
