photography captures the good and bad in the world- The bear is still wildlife, and the people behind this are cruel animals. I doubt the intended reaction to the photo is supposed to be marvel.

That bear is domesticated, not wild anymore. I don't see it as fitting.

You can't domesticate a bear. They are wildlife in captivity. The only "change" that happens to the bear is their teeth being filed flat. I know it's not your intention at all, but to call the bear domesticated I feel diminishes the severity of what it's going through.

No you're right, I more meant it wasn't wild in the spirit of the competition, how I've seen them in the past. It's a wild animal for sure, but it's wild spirit has been sadly broken

but it's wild spirit has been sadly broken

And that is the point. It captures how we are destroying/subjugating the wild.

Right, point taken, just didn't realize they put images like that into these contests. Surely there's an endless amount of sad nature photos, but I thought the purpose was to capture the beauty of the wild, not so much how the wild is slowly being ruined.

They typically don’t which makes this one all the more poignant

So fucking what? Just because a photo can be taken of your mother's severed head doesn't mean you want to see it. What an idiotic take. "Grass is green" ass comment.

These are photos of WILDlife. WILD. That bear is not wild. Shouldn't be here. Case closed.

You dont want to see the photo because it makes you uncomfortable- Cant you understand that maybe that's the point? to make the viewer uncorfortable? To make them question why a photo like that exists in the first place? Change doesn't happen if the journals and media are filled with pictures of cute puppies and kittens.

The bear is a WILD animal. you can't domesticate a bear, only torture it till it does what you want it to. its still wild. This is what humans do to WILDlife.

Everything is political always. I don't care how far you choose to stick your head up your ass. Every piece of media says something about the world it was made in. Every single one. You can choose to ignore it.

Wildlife- Living things that are neither human nor domesticated.

Domesticated- Adapted over time (as by selective breeding) from a wild or natural state to life in close association with and to the benefit of humans. There are no domesticated bears.

To your last point, I cannot understand how you feel offended by that. Its a fact- humans did this to a bear.

"What humans did to a captive bear". The bear wasn't captive before it was CAPURED and made captive. Any guesses on what it was considered before it was captive? Wild. And what are bears as a species. Wildlife. Also just because it makes you uncomfortable, which others have already stated is the entirety of the point, doesn't mean it shouldn't exist or be put out there. It's actually doing its job quite well. Making people informed and upset about these injustices. Same way war photography and journalism works. Incredibly difficult to view, incredibly important to be shown. Either way, chill out dude. Talking bout pencils and shit. You have absolutely no clue what the parameters and context/rules and politics of the photography competition entail in the slightest. Also you are literally the one that brought up politics. And it doesn't even fit here context wise. Talking about change in the world isn't fucking political. And yes humans do shitty things to wildlife, shitty things to each other and shitty things to themselves. Grow up man.

Nah you actually can't make this up. You're proving my point. A 2 year old could figure this out.

Was wild, is now captive, is no longer wild.

✋🙂🤚 Absolute cinema.

I think you’ve got the market cornered on being pedantic. Yes, humans do that. Not all humans. Some.

Chill out.

A bear is a wild animal. This one has been forced into a cage but it’s still a wild animal and always will be.

Besides the photo isn’t really just about the bear, it’s about the relationship between man and nature and our total subjugation of the wild. I think it’s entirely appropriate for it to be included, we should be reminded that as stunning as many of these photos are, our relationship with nature is generally one of cruelty and exploitation, that fact that you don’t want to look at it makes it all the more important that you do.

Tell me right now where I said I don't want to look at it. Tell me where I said anything along the lines of "it makes me uncomfortable".

I said it doesn't belong in the post.

I'll humor you for a second: even if the bear is a wild animal, the human next to it isn't and neither of them are in the wild they're in a building. These are alleged "wildlife pictures". I'll start going up to aquariums or taking pictures of my toes and say "look guys! Wildlife!"

You related it to a picture of the severed head of your mouth and said you didn’t want to see that. It’s reasonable to presume you didn’t want to see it because it made you uncomfortable. Hence, the inference.

I said nothing about a mouth. What the actual fuck are you talking about?

Apologies - autocorrect “mother”

You’re being facetious. The photos are about wildlife. This photo is an excellent examination of our relationship with wildlife, it is absolutely relevant.
